Question about RCA P52926 52" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

RCA P61927 Someone gave my youth group an RCAP61927. I am told the vertical alignment is off. The colors are seperated on the screen and they have a dip in the appearance. I want to try to repair it at minimal cost to my youth. Is this something I can fix or do I need a repairman?

You are describing a convergence issue. Rear projection CRT sets use THREE separate color 'guns' that need to be aimed properly every so often, sometimes every month, sometimes once every year, but usually when its moved. Convergence operations are typically a user serviceable function and the process can be started from the menu.  If you have tried doing the user convergence and it is still a bit off you will need to get it to a repair technician that can either fix the power supply or mechanically align the guns.  In my many years of TV experience, rear projection CRT's are typically discarded for two main reasons; either the power supply is causing convergence issues or the blue gun is dull or dead. Either way if you cannot perform a convergence yourself you are looking at $200+ in repair and parts. I would suggest finding a local television repair technician, not many left I know, and get a quote.

Sorry i don't have that exact information. But it is usually buried there somewhere, look around in the menu it may be labeled something else like "screen setup" or some sort of other adjustment. When I sit down to do a convergence on a set I have never seen before I rarely have the manual and I just have to dig through the menu throughly. There have been times I did however find 'hidden buttons' like on the back or in a speaker grill to get into a convergence menu. All else fails a local television repair technician will usually do a convergence on a CRT projection set for cheap.

Have a p61927 rca 61" big screen - chassis ptk195m2 - picture bows in at top/bottom, color overlaps- thought it was stk730-130 on convergence board but don't see it, is it located on the back of board ?...

I believe that is on the back of the convergence board. What makes you suspect that particular switching regulator out of curiosity? It may very well be, but just wondering how you pinpointed it to that.

Thanks
Tim

The picture shows all 3 colors seperate from each

Sounds like a problem in your convergence circuit. This is the circuit responsible for making sure all 3 colors align perfectly so that you don't see what you are seeing now. If you have tried adjusting it and that did not work then you will need to have the convergence circuit repaired.

My boyfriend was bringing our new 60 inch television home. he put a tarp over it and it scratched the screen. what can we do???

There is not much you can do besides replace the screen. Go to www.encompassparts.com There are 2 screens together on the front. The outside screen is the lenticular sceen and the inside screen is the fresnel screen. Thanks

The vertical deflection output chip or associated cirutry including the coupling cap and controls. Some units have vertical output transistors which can short and open the B+ resistor feeding the transistors.

Convergance, and distorted projection, colors will not align

These tv's have a separate convergence power supply that goes bad. This will cause the problem you are having. Depending on the age of your tv, the board may be available

It sounds like you have a convergence problem. Go into the customer menu and attempt to adjust, if that doesn't work. then you will further service. There are at least 4 different areas of concern. Call a factory authorized service center, but try unplugging the tv from the a/c outlet for 5 minutes, first. GOOD LUCK.

Poor picture quality

The problem is probably the convergence power supply. The switching power supply chip on the convergence board will burn out, producing a rounded picture with 3 separate colors. The chip is a long, heat-sinked SIP (single-in-line package) located on the convergence board. You can find replacements on ebay.
