Question about Kenwood KDC-MP342U Car CD Player

1 Answer

I purchased a Kenwood KDC- MP345U and my Ipod touch version 4.0.2 used to work fine in the stereo. Now it only reads and then gives me an IPOD error. I have tried other Ipod products and they work fine. I have tried resetting the stereo but that did not work. I have tried upgrading the software on the Itouch and that did not work. I have tried using different cables and I have checked for bent pins. At this point I am beyond frustration. The Itouch itself works everywhere but in the stereo and the stereo works with other Ipod products but the two pieces do not seem to work with each other anymore. What else can I try?

I had a similar issue only mine read the song title and everything but just gave no sound. i called up kenwood and the solution for me was take the ipod (5th gen nano) turn it on, flip the hold switch on then off, then press and hold both the menu and center button of the scroll wheel until the apple logo showed up and release them. wait for it to go back to the menu and plug it in. fixed my problem. they said it was something w/ the ipod not connecting properly or something. hope this helps a bit

I just bought a Kenwood KDC-MP439 and the box says made for ipod........ But i dunno how to use the feature...... Help!!!!!

This particular model is advertised as being "made for iPod," but this claim is a bit misleading. Most decks advertised this way mean "iPod ready," but require you to purchase an additional accessory to use that functionality.

In the case of the KDC-MP439, you can use your iPod with the deck by connecting the iPod to the AUX connection on the right side of the faceplate. Making this connection will require you to purchase a cord with 3.5mm male audio connectors on both ends (it's the same connector on your headphones that plugs into the iPod's headphone jack, only you'll need one with that connector on both ends of the cord).

If you'd like to take advantage of the wireless Bluetooth functionality of the iPod, you will need an iPod Touch (2G, 3G, or 4G versions) and the Kenwood accessory KCA-BT100. This component adds hands-free Bluetooth functionality to your stereo. You can find this module at many locations in a range of prices. For example, eBay has them for prices as low as $39.99 (may be a minimum bid for an auction-type listing; be sure to check the listing type if you go this route). Online retailers seem to vary between $99.99 and $150 or so. These will include a manual that should provide instructions for pairing your iPod with the stereo unit.

If you find this information helpful, please remember to give this solution a positive rating!

How do you hook up an i-pod to a KDC-135 AND HEAR IT?

You will need a 3.5mm mini to mini cable (available at any good car audio store for between $10-20. Plug that into the headphone jack on your ipod and then into the aux input on your stereo. Then select aux-in as the source on your Kenwood. Now play the music on your ipod at about 3/4 volume on the iPod.

I have a kenwood KDC-MP438U stereo. Ipod error.

Hi If anything the stereo was probably designed and tested using a certain version of the Iphones software, now that version 4 has been released the way the IPhone communicates may have changed.

As a result the stereo is no longer able to talk to the phone and vice versa. your probably best off contacting Kenwood direct to see if they are aware of this problem and if there is anything that can be done about it.

Playing ipod on kenwood

This happened to me. What worked was turning off the ipod (not stand by mode). Turn it back on and plug it in, it should work.

My kenwood KDC-MP342U stopped reading my ipod i just got it within the past two weeks and it was working fine and the all of a sudden when i pluggedd my ipod in all it says is reading. i have tried to use...

I had the same problem with my first gen ipod touch. The reset button is on the front panel, between the Fast Forward button and the "1" button. Push it with a pen or something with the unit turned on. It will go dark then come back. You'll have to set up your preamp and other stuff again. I also now push the eject button before removing my ipod or USB thumb drives. The display will flash "remove". I guess this does some handshaking that cleans things up before removal.

Usb signal error on kdc x-991

I had the same problem. Unfortunately with the IPOD Unless you can give it extra USB power, it is unfortunately not enuff from the Kenwood's deck. I had ran a 100gb HDD in an enclosure...I thought great its working...worked fine for.....20-25 mins....
And started getting the USB Read Error...or something to that extent...I forget now. So I tried about 2 or 3 different enclosure that did not need extra power (or should not need extra power to run the drive, and no luck. So anyway I went to fry's and picked up a USB to Cigarette adapter and now all is well...The adapter cost me $10...
I have 3 external drives that now work. The only other thing that you might look at for the IPOD, is getting a cable that has 3 heads....

One going to the USB Port on the Kenwood, and then there's two more heads that split off the other tip one for the ipod and then it y's off to another usb, plug that into the USB power adapter from fry's and that might give you the extra power you need...( I can't guarantee this as I dont own an IPOD and probably never will unless someone gives me one for free.)
