Connect them to the router. Aslong as the router is configured for DHCP (and it should be so, even in it's default state), they should both work just fine.

I need to hook up my xbox 360 to the internet using a netgear router but my computer is in a different room what wires go where

The router needs to sit near the phone line.
Then run LAN cables to your 360 and PC from your router.

Where do i hook up my x box 2 the computer

It's quite simple actually. All you need to do, is buy one eithernet cable and have a router. (continued below)
Step 1. If it's an Xbox 360 it would've come with one ethernet cord. If it's an original Xbox, then you'll need to buy 2 instead of the intended 1.

Step 2. Make sure the ethernet cable from your modem is in the back plugged into the router, also make sure that another cable is plugged into the back of your computer and also to the back of your router (thats what one of the cables is for).

Step 3. Now take the second cable (the one that you bought) or the cable came with the xbox system and plug that into the back of your system into the ethernet slot.

Step 4. Plug the cable you just plugged into your system into a third open slot on the back of the router and Voila! you are ready to "Pwn The Noobs" on a 'lil XBL. Mind you that Xbox Live does cost money ($50 or so a year). Now you can play with friends, transfer pictures or movies or music, depending on if its an original or xbox 360!...I hope this helps

p.s. - You will need to do a few more things: go to system setup on the xbox dashboard (all the way to the right on the screen where your profiles are kept) then go to computer setup. Then you will get a code to enter at www.xbox.com/pcsetup

The above will only hook up the Xbox 360 console to the INTERNET by routing the internet to it, a router just splits the internet and assigns internal IP addresses in order to allow internet use by both the computer and the Xbox console. If you meant how to hook up the console to "Browse" its hard-drive/DVD drive/etc., it is not quite as easy. You should look up "Xbox 360 hotswapping" in google or something and that will show you how to view the hard drive contents.

Have a nice day and do not forget to rate please...!

Ive seen videos online about pluging your xbox into your lap top. the problem is that my internet is secured and when i plug my xbox into my laptop, and i try connecting with my xbox it says connection...

(Hopefully you are running Windows 7 for this advice. Let me know otherwise.)
1. You should be able to click Start, type "view network connections", hit enter. 2. Right-click your wireless connection and hit 'Properties'. 3. Click the sharing tab and then 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection'. 4. Click OK and try again.
You may need to also plug in your computers DNS settings into your XBOX (360?).
Repeat 1. 2. Right-click and hit 'Status', then 'Details'. 3. Notice the IPv4 DNS Server. 4. Go to your system / Network / Wired on the XBOX and try typing in your Laptops DNS numbers (ex. 192.168.1.254). Unless they changed it on the new Blade system so that you HAVE to have and IP, subnet, and gateway, in which case, take note of those three numbers on your machine and plug those into the XBOX settings too (except if your computer shows 192.168.1.150, set your XBOX to something like 192.168.1.155, everything else the same).

My router is on, and is hooked up to my verizon modem. My xbox 360 and my computer are both hooked up to the router and all the lights are on but only my computer is working for the internet where my 360...

with verizon, you need to set the modem to full bridged mode so that the connection from your modem will be opened. This certain firewall is called NAT. Your modem and your router has this feature. To disable NAT on your modem, you need to set it to full bridged mode. To disable the NAT on your router, you need to open ports on your router.

You need to open this port on the router for Xbox live to work
TCP: 80, 3074, 53

UDP: 88, 3074

forward it to the ip of your Xbox.

this should set the NAT on your xbox to open, not moderate.

I have a Cayman 3347w wireless router and I am trying to use one of the wired slots to connect my xbox 360 to the internet. the xbox will not connect. is this router xbox compatable?

Please try the following steps below;

To make a router connection to Xbox LIVE:
  1. Before you connect any cables, turn off your router, modem, PC, and Xbox 360 console. (Unplug your modem from its power source to turn it off.)
  2. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem and the other end to the Ethernet input port on the back of your router.
  3. With another Ethernet cable, connect one end to one of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to your PC's Ethernet port.
  4. With the third Ethernet cable, connect one end to another of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.
  5. Turn on your modem, then your router, then your PC.
  6. Make sure your PC can access the Internet. If not, you may need to configure the router for Internet access. For help configuring the router using your PC, check the instructions that came with the router.
  7. Turn on your Xbox 360 console and sign in with your profile.
  8. If this is the first time you've turned on your Xbox 360 console, see Create Your Gamer Profile to get started with both the Xbox 360 system and Xbox LIVE play.
If you're unable to connect to Xbox LIVE, you can try to diagnose the problem right on your console. Go to My Xbox and open System Settings, then select Network Settings (setup XBOX using Automatic Configuration DHCP), Test Xbox LIVE Connection.

Hope this helps!

Can't pick up wireless internet through router

You need to have the specific wireless adapter made for the Xbox 360. It runs about $100. Other wireless adapters (for some reason) will not work. I tried 6 different ones before I gave up and hard wired the Xbox 360.

Hi i have a satellite internet provider and im trying to set up my linksys broadband router so i can hook up my xbox 360 my problem is everytime i hook it up im getting no internet connection can you tell...

hi,
there are two things to be addressed in this case.firstly you have a satellite internet provider which can create consistency issue.then when you connect a xbox to router you need to do a port forwading on linksys router(port forwarding=opening ports in router so your xbox can communicate freely).in order to do the port forwarding you have to log onto router user interface.then go to applications and gaming tab, where you can do the port forwarding.
but before doing so,you have to contact microsoft to know the ip address assigned to the xbox and the ports(numbers) to be opened.
thank you.

Hooking up xbox live

Well, it's very possible if you are using a wireless router that your connection may not be strong enough. XBOX Live and most online gaming requires a steady. strong, high bandwith connection. A weak singnal, OR someone else using up the bandwith (i.e. someone downloading music on another computer connected to your router) can cause the problem.
If you're using a wireless connection, try moving the router and wireless game adapter closer to each other.
If you're using a hardwire connection from one of the routers outgong ports then make sure other's aren't on the internet (Or at least aren't using alot of bandwith) while XBOX Live is being used.
Please remember also that if you have a wireless network and you haven't implimented wireless secruity (i.e. WEP or WPA encryption) then your network is "Open" and anyone within range can connect and use up your bandwith,

X box 360

You can't get an IP address on the Xbox that way. You need to get an IP address from a device that works as a DHCP server such as a residential router. Connecting the Xbox to the PC will do nothing for you.
