Question about Teledyne Laars Laars Lite 2 Pool Heater 125,000 Btu / Propane Gas

1 Answer

Hi! I moved into a bank owned home with a hot tub that has a gas LAARS LITE 2 Teledyne heater. It is not working, so I had someone come out and check it. He said I need to purchase a pilot assembly before he can even tell if the heater is working. How do I know which one to buy?

Go to www.laars.com and download a manual for your model. Get the model number from the heater, and look up a manual. If yours is a milivolt model, the pilot must be working to troubleshoot further. The manuals will be full of information.

There is no such thing as a laars hot tub. They make heaters for pools and hot tubs. The laars is the heater. There is a chance that someone remote connected the thermostat to the heater which would be in your boiler room, or some other remote location, like near the pumps...

Usually unless you are a Licensed Gas or Pool company the odds of someone selling you a gas valve to install yourself are slim to none.

(natural gas) the heater comes on for 3-5 minutes and then shuts off, and won't work again for hours. this is a shred heater between the pool and hot tub, but never used for the pool.

Check your high limit switch inside of the heater. Usually when the high limit switch pops it will take about 4 to 6 hours for it to reset itself without you resetting the system.

It sounds like a thermocouple has gone bad. this is a very common problem with gas powered things ie; water heaters, furnaces, hot tubs. The telltale sign is when you release the pilot light button it won't stay lit. This is a safety feature and is relatively inexpensive and easy to repair.
