If you are inclined, try and find where the hard drive is, and pull the hard drive out and reinsert it in it's bay. The hard drive on my Gateway is located on the left side about midway. Its cover is help in place by 2 small screws. Remove the screws pull the cover and the hard drive will have a strap to help pull it out. Pull it out then plug it back in see if that helps.
