If you are inclined, try and find where the hard drive is, and pull the hard drive out and reinsert it in it's bay. The hard drive on my Gateway is located on the left side about midway. Its cover is help in place by 2 small screws. Remove the screws pull the cover and the hard drive will have a strap to help pull it out. Pull it out then plug it back in see if that helps.

Check if you have any usb flash drive inserted on your machine that might be interfering with boot order.
If your machine is fairly new, try to exchange it with another one at your purchase location and avoid any further problems.

Forgot admin password cannot how to reset admin password gateway lt2104u

Look on Ebay for a password reset disk. Many vendors on Ebay sell a bootable "linux" disk that you boot from and then you can edit your password file on Windows. I have versions for XP/ Vista.Windows 7.

Be sure to get one that works for your version of windows. You must set the BIOS to boot from the CD drive first for this to work. About $5 to $10 for the reset disk.

Dennis

Gateway nv7915u error message i'm getting is pxe-e61 media test failure check cable pxe-m0f exiting broadcom pxe rom no bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key but when i do that nothing...

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.Next - to check if the harddrive is faulty, remove the hard drive and insert it into an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a workingcomputer's USB port. If this computer cannot see itas an USB mass storage device and you cannot open the various folders and fileson this drive, then this confirms the hard drive is faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

First of all you need to make sure that your machine's hardware can run Windows 7. The Microsoft website has info on everything you need to know. Google can find that for you.

Are you doing a clean install or an upgrade? That being said, for a clean install please see the next paragraph.

You may need to select the boot order. That is, it needs to boot from the CD/DVD drive first. Usually this is accomplished by: Have the Windows CD in the drive>reboot the machine and as soon as you see it begin to load start tapping the F12 key. This should put you into the selection menu to choose which device to boot from first. Also, going into F2 (setup) will allow you to select which device boots first.

An upgrade is usually started from within Windows.

Replaced hard drive and am getting a "Reboot and

Hi seqhdha,

The reason why you're receiving that meesage is the system is not detecting any bootable device on the computer or it is boot from a media that is not bootable (CD/DVD/USB). To fix this problem if you already installed the Operating System you can change boot priority setting and select the Hard Drive as the First Boot Device however, if you havent install the Operating System you need to select the CDROM as the First Boot Device and insert the Windows Installer.

Here are the steps on how to access the BIOS Page.

1. Restart the computer and while it is booting tap DELETE button.

2. On the Bios page look for the BOOT tab then set the priority to either Hard Disk or CDROM depends if you already installed the OS or not.

3. Follow the instruction on how to install the Operating System

4. Rate me if this helps so i can help others.

Thanls for using Fixya.

You need to access the BIOS - press F1 or F2 (depending on the version)during the start of the desktop - and in there you must modify the boot order: put the cd first then the had disk second. Save the change, reboot, insert the Vista disk and reboot once more - the disk will be loaded.

This happens when the BIOS can't find the hard disk. If you're lucky it's just the hard disk that has failed, if you're not it's the motherboard itself the one that failed.
To find out which replace the hard disk with a good one then try to boot in th BIOS - if you can it's the hard disk, if you can't it's the motherboard.
