SOURCE: tumble dryer makes whine noise but doesnt spin

Sounds like the drive belt has gone, and the noise you can hear is the motor going round.
The red glow you can see, will be the heater element glowing..
To check the belt, remove top cover, and you will be able to see if the belt is on or not, if you can see it round the drum, try to lift it up, if it has not broken, then you will not be able to remove it, and that means the motor or drum could be siezed, try to turn the drum by hand, it should be fairly stiff to turn, but not that stiff that you cannot turn it at all.

Please rate my fixya solution.
Thanks.

Have you checked the belt? That's generally the problem when a dryer stops spinning.

SOURCE: Tumble dryer not working

sounds like a broken belt ;it has to be un plugged from the power source . most belts can be accessed thru the panel on the back o f the dryer.

Check that the belt has not fallen off ...does the drum turn by hand easy if so then its fallen off .Motor could also have jammed....

With new electric dryer, samsung DV330AG, do I need to use a special plug with copper connectors? The plug that I have has what looks like brass connectors.

Hello, W/D here.

If it has a tag on the cord that says UL listed, it should be fine. If the plug does not meet a national standard, replace it with one that is.

Best regards, --W/D--

Hi. DLEX8377WM - no heat...dryer tumbles and there are no errors, but no heat. Happened a few months ago, but started working again.

sounds like the heating element is out, you can disconnect the vent hose turn on dryer and see if heat comes out.

My maytag neptune dryer makes a buzzing sound but does not turn, then later in the day, it will start just fine and run, until later in the night and then it won't . does this mean I have a loose belt?

its either a loose belt, (very easy to sort out as most tumble dryers use the motor on a pivot to tension the belt.)

if its not a loose belt its most likely to be the carbon brushes inside the motor that have worn down and are now making poor contact with the motor itself.

if your not confident to have ago at fixting these yourself, most repair shops should be able to-do this for you in 10 - 20 mins tops and it should not cost a fortune either.

Hoover Maxi 6 TC50 Tumble Dryer making squealing noise

Have you fixed this problem? I also have a Hoover condenser dryer, only a few months old, and has started to make a squeal/whistle. I'm thinking it might be the front fan needing some WD40, OR too much water vapour around the belt that moves the drum causing the sounds.

If it's the fan, lubricating the shaft and its components should fix the problem, if a wet fan then I'd think maybe fully cleaning the condenser filter, reservoir ect will fix the problem.

The problem seems to go away though "mostly" 15 or so minutes after you start the dryer, so that makes me think ones it gets warm something is expanding to allow more "give" so maybe the belt.

Dryer heats but won't tumble

Assuming, the timer is ok and that you can hear the the dryer motor running, it sounds like a broken belt. These kind of failures generally occur suddenly - one day it works, the next day it doesn't.
