Question about GE Profile JVB67HWW 36" Telescopic Downdraft Ventilation System: White on White Kitchen Hood

1 Answer

I have a GE downdraft vent, model #JVB94SH1SS. A couple months ago I pushed the button to put it down and it went down and up and down and up and down and up and...well you get it. I had to unplug it to make it stop. When I plugged it back in it was stuck in the up position. I have finally decided to try to get it figured out. I have it apart to the point that I can see the gear motor and control board. I need help determining what I need to replace. I have a multitester and have used it. I get a 0 reading on the motor with the multitester set for ohms. When testing the VDC on the raise/lower push switch connectors that are at the control board I get a reading of about 6. The control board has good continuity at all the solder points. Do I need to test the raise/lower switch? If so, what do I test for? By the way, the blower works fine. I so appreciate the help!

I had the same problem. It is the switch. Hang on because that little $3 swtich is about $60 from a parts house. Sears wanted $114. If you take the switch out or disconnect the switch at the board and jumper the two leads, (12v), it should work fine. That will tell you whether it is the switch. I did it with a small screwdriver. Careful, even though it is 12v it will get yor attention. I have all GE appliances and they are all junk.

I need the small control module for a GE downdraft telescopic vent, part no. 959-0138-003 (ACT, Inc.). GE page does not recognize the part number. Where can I get this part?

Does anybody know where I can get a copy of the schematic for the control PC board P/N 959-0138-003 by ACT, Inc. for the GE Downdraft Vent model no. JVB98SH1SS?
Thank you.

GE Profile PVM2070SM3SS. Stuck in "Demo Mode" Turntable moves, light goes on, no heat. Main keyboard changed 3 months ago.

This may seem crazy... But, I had the same problem, and the only thing that works is to put the exhaust fan on, then microwave. Only then will it actually heat. Now the vent button just broke and pushed in. Ahhhhh

Ge downdraft vent

try removing the switch from the ribbon connector, and then jumping the two pins momentarily with a screwdriver blade or other metallic tool. It could be that the switch itself is bad. This is the same problem I'm having and I am currently looking for a replacement switch online.

Pivot arm in telescoping downdraft system sticks when closing

Having the same problem. Unit worked well for 1 1/2 years and then suddenly it dropped after I was thru using it and pushed the arrow for it to go down after it dropped the power wouldn't turn off - had to unplug it.. Repairman came out , took it out, lubricated it , re-installed and next time it went up fine, vented fine but when it went down it dropped again and power wouldn't turn off again. I am hesitant to call him out again unless I can figure out what else might fix the problem. I have noticed that the top piece now seems to be bowed a bit. I guess I can have him take out the cooktop but think there must be enough room for it if it worked fine for the 1 1/2 years. It is a soapstone countertop.

Up & down push button not working

Repaired the same problem several months ago. The up/down control has a very small switch located under the button. The switch is part of the selector switch assembly that costs upwards of $100. However, the switch itself is available from Digi Key electronics part # P12321-SCT-ND at about $1.00 each, plus shipping. If you can handle the unit disassembly, which is extensive in this repair, and can solder very small switches, this is an inexpensive fix. I suggest you buy some spares. I'm looking for a seal replacement for this unit right now. Good luck.

Install a Thermador UCV36 cook'n'vent

Hi schmidt_rich,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: You took over as owner builder when your builder "took the $ and ran". You are installing kitchen cabs now and discovered the PVC vent pipe (which goes into the foundation and out the side of the house) is in the wrong place for the location of the downdraft unit and integral blower. The vent is actually under the electrical connection panel. You were told initially( 2 yrs ago when you bought the downdraft cook'n'vent) there could be no bends in the exhaust fan route or it would change the effectiveness. Does anyone know if it is ok to put a bend in the connection to the vent? Or do you need to redo your kitchen cabinets?

I can syphathise. I have had to deal with this same problem. I have found that one ell will not degrade the effectiveness enough to notice. If you need more then you may need to adjust cabinets.
