When you print photos, in Preferences you have to set up the quality of the print to either Best or Photo whichever is the highest one in the list. Hopefully this will increase the quality of the printing, although this is not a photo printer. And you are correct, it's a printer problem.

HP 7410 has lines through photo prints. How do we fix it?

Two probable causes. If the lines are evenly spaced and show up just when printing photos you may just not have enough computer resources. Your computer may be low on ram or have a lot of processes running that load up the cpu. Trying printing at a lower quality and see if it goes away. Try turning off everything you are not using in the computer and then only do printing. For example doing email or or looking at web pages while printing is generally not a good idea. Some anitvirus programs will slow things enough to cause this but can be temporally turned off while printing.

If this is a line that doesn't seem to change or goes away even a slight amount after printing a few pages then you probably need to replace the ink cartridge that is making the line color. It can also be a dirty print head so before you change cartridge run a bunch of cleaning routines. 5-10 before you try something else.

When I print photos, they have uniform vertical streaks.

Issue: Banded or streaked prints
Solution: Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows)

Change the Print Quality Settings (Windows) The Quality setting controls how finely ink droplets are placed on the printed page. Depending on the type of paper being used a higher Print Quality setting does not always insure a better print. Print speed will decrease as the Print Quality setting is increased. Follow the instructions below to change the print quality settings in the Canon printer driver for the Windows operating system through a printing application.
  1. Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.

Note: Depending on the Application software, 'Properties' may be displayed as 'Preferences'.

  2. Set the desired print quality in the 'Print Quality' section.

  3. Select 'High', 'Standard', or 'Draft / Fast'.
To set more detailed print quality settings, follow this procedure:
  1. Select 'Custom' and click 'Set'.

  2. In the Set Print Quality dialog drag the slide bar from 'Fast' to 'Fine' to select the print quality.

    win_print_quality_slider.jpg

Note: There are five options in 'Quality'. However, selectable options are limited depending on the media type.

  3. Select 'Auto', 'Dither', or 'Diffusion' from the 'Halftoning' section.

Canon i9900 isn't printing photo magenta

Use denatured alcohol to soak the print head. Then use suction to draw the alcohol back thru to the foam ports where the ink cartridges rest. Continue until the alcohol runs clear. Then use water and then repeat with alcohol. Allow to dry and re-install in printer. Use new ink cartridges when re-starting printing.

Lexmark Z53 prints photos on 'normal' but enlongates image on 'best'

I'm getting around the problem by using Windows or Nero print options to get the photo as near to the size I need. It would be good if I could print photo's from Photo studio though much simpler and less time consuming.
