I know you turn the water source off, open filter with wrench, (I lost the instructions), but I know there is something about greasing an o ring. I need a step by step. Don't recall red button. I am not near filter, will go to check it out tomorrow.

According to the size of your filter housing you need same size Housing Wrench. These are special wrench that can use for twisting off the water filter housing sumps.

We have here below a link which have all the sizes of these Wrench but also all sizes of cartridges that you can order directly all together. If you have any questions about sizes you can contact them directly we are sure that they will be more than happy to help you.

In addition to your comment please note that there is not something special, on the housing bottom there is an o ring which is uses to watertight seal with top base. All you need is to clean everything very well with water so all dirt go away and if you have a silicon crease you can apply all the way around the o ring so it will perfect fit and also it will avoid the housing stuck the next time you will try to remove again the housing.

We are replacing filter cartridges without using any silicon grease many times and all we need is to force a little harder the wrench. So if you use the silicon grease will make it easier the next time.

Sitting atop the filter housing cap is a red pressure relief button, which vents excess pressure inside the housing to make installing Culligan replacement filter cartridges a breeze.

Usually you turn the top which turns off the water. Put a bucket under the filter and press the red button. Some water will spurt out to relieve pressure. The filter housing are usually removed with a special wrench. Discard element. Install new one and tighten.

First you want to turn the water off, both the in and out on the filter, then push the red button this will release the pressure in the filter so that you can unscrew the catridge housing. I have a plastic wrench that came with mine. it's just a ring with a handle on it, inside the ring are some dogs that catch the ribs on the canister. If you don't have the wrench, the canister is big enough to get 4 or 6 hands on it to unscrew it

Culligan Super S Water Conditioner - Recurring Constant Water Running Issue

That is way too frequently! It is true that these tend to have sealpack problems, but usually every 3-5 years would be normal replacement for sealpack on this system. I suspect you are getting sediment or sand from the well and this is causing the sealpack damage. A pre-filter housing with 20-30 micron filter may improve this problem. Run your outside hose into a white bucket and pay attention to any sand, sediment or debris that may settle out of the water after letting the water sit. Suggest letting the pump cycle several times while observing for sediment. If substantial sediment is seen,I would suggest flushing the well for several hours (just let the hose run, for several hours).

How do you change the filter to a culligan water softener

Here are instruction to remove the filter housing. This is from my tips posting. Culligan filter housings are just Pentek/Pentair water filter housings and these tips apply to virtually any filter housing.

Frequently whole house filters can be very difficult to remove. The canisters become almost impossible to loosen, even after pressing the pressure relief valve and using a housing wrench. The most common reasons for this are the housing was put back on with the housing wrench, debris in the housing threads and a bad pressure relief valve.

How to remove a stuck filter housing.
1. Turn off the incoming water.
2. By-Pass the Softener
3. Go to the nearest cold water faucet, open it and let the water run until pressure drops significantly.
4. Turn the water off at outlet of filter (If housing has shutoff on top off head, turn this off now).
5. Press and hold the pressure relief button to relieve pressure further.
6. Use filter wrench to unscrew housing (If it still won't loosen repeat steps 2-5).
7. After removing, clean housing thoroughly, make sure threads are clean on filter bowl and housing head. Lubricate threads of housing and head with plumbers faucet lube or silicone.
8. Clean and lubricate the O-Ring (replace the O-ring every couple years or if housing leaks after screwing back on). It helps to flip the O-Ring over a couple times per year.
9. Replace the cartridge filter and screw the housing back on.
10. Turn the incoming water on slowly while holding the pressure relief button down until all air is purged.
11. Open outlet and let water run to cold water faucet until all air is purged.
12. Put softener back in service.

IMPORTANT! Only tighten the filter housing by HAND!
NEVER use the housing wrench to tighten the housing.

I hope these tips help you with the angst of removing stubborn filter housings.

To unscrew big blue culligan water filter cover is it clockwise or counterclockwise, (

The Culliagan manual does not specify clockwise/counterclockwise, but what that means is its
implied to be counterclockwise. If you're using the "Big Blue HD-950" filter housing, then
you'll also want the Culligan SW-3 Filter Housing Wrench. But a HUGE pair of Channellock pliers
would also work (while leaving behind a few teeth marks in the plastic housing).

I need instructions for replacing the filter on the heavy duty Sediment water filter.

Turn the water off on inlet and outlet, press and hold RED pressure relief button on top of housing.
Use filter wrench supplied and unscrew to the left. Clean housing out and replace filter. Only tighten housing by hand. It helps to press the RED relief button again after you turn the water back on to bleed off any air in filter housing before you turn the outlet back on.

How do I change the filer in my Culligan unit?

Turn the water off IN & OUT, (If this is a Culligan pre-filter it may have the shutoff valve on top), Press the red pressure relief button and hold it down for several seconds. Use the wrench provide and unscrew housing. Clean out the housing, lubricate the o-ring with silicone lube, replace filter and housing. Only tighten the housing by hand. Turn incoming water back on. It helps to hold the pressure relief button down after turning water back on to purge the air.

How do you change the filters in a Culligan RO system

For a 4-Stage system:
1. Open the housing caps of the components that house both the sediment and carbon filters (you may need a residential spanner wrench). Put each filter into its proper housing and tighten housing caps MANUALLY. Do not use wrench.
2. Repeat process with membrane housing and membrane (if membrane needs replacing).
3. Remove inline polishing filter by disconnecting tubing at both ends. Replace with new inline filter and reconnect tubing.
