Question about IBM ThinkCentre M52 8215 - P4 531 3 GHz (821521U) PC Desktop

1 Answer

Bought a used IBM ThinkCentre M52 8215-VAN S/N LK71288 for $5.00. Needed memory and hard drive. Installed memory. Don't have harness for hard drive. Not sure where to plug hard drive in. Has optical drive (dvd). If you unplug dvd then thinkcentre finds hard drive but I need dvd to load windows XP OS. I know nothing about the thinkcentre. IBM have installation videos but doesn't show which wires to plug in. Help!

If you have any discs in the dvd remove them... it should boot to the hard drive when it doesn't find anything in the dvd. if you need to install an operating system put that disc in the dvd and boot from it. during the installation it will start to run off the hard drive. when you are done installing remove the installation disc.

When you download the drivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a record of which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files are located on your hard drive. IBM ThinkCentre 8183 (M51) does not boot

I think it is more than likely your hard drive is the problem, you get the splash screen and everything is working up to that point which tells me the motherboard is fine.

Ibm barbados 8124 specification

Hi, Maybe you are having a hard time searching the model of your computer, the key word that you should used is ThinkCentre A50 only because the ThinkCentre S50 and theThinkCentre A50 including the type/version are all under on same category (IBM support website )
Summary of IBM Think center s50 8183
Make sure that the HDD is a SATA drive, not the older PATA. There is only one IDE connector, and if you put both the CD/DVD and the HDD on the same cable, the system will run very slow (at the native CD speed).
Upgrading of video is limited to PCI only, not AGP or PCI-X.
The memory is dual channel, so for it to run best the two DDR modules (PC2700) must be identical (preferably dual-channel rated).
System software is easy to get. Google away with "ThinkCentre S50" and use the IBM site.
or you can just copy and use this website address to redirect you to the page where the driver, software information and support including the complete specification are all there. http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-50535

I hope that i was able to provide the information that you are looking for .. Good Luck

I have an IBM M-50 8189-E8U. Will it support a 1Tb SATA drive

If your motherboard has a SATA plugin, you can more than likely use any size hard drive you want. The only question is if your power supply can handle it but I'm quite positive that Hard Drives don't require that much power(at least enough power to create an issue).

your bios settings are not saved because of low voltage of CMOS cell.
Change your cmos cell from motherbord.
CMOs cell gives power to bios flash memory so settings saved.

IBM M51 ThinkCentre doesn t recognize 4gig installed memory

You can confirm this in the BIOS and i'm sure it will show 4GIG. Your Operating system maybe a 32 BIT OS, hence it will only show about 3... GIG. It's a limitation for a 32 BIT OS.
