Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My school overhead projector projects a crooked view onto the screen, even though the projector is flat on the cart and horizontal to the edge of the screen. I've had this happen with several projectors. What can I do?

What do you mean by "crooked"? Is the image wide at the top and narrow at the bottom?

Hello, since i don't know what type of projector you have, going by some of epsons projectors, you may want to try the keystone correction, the symbol for keystone is a trapezoid, also some of the old ones had a adjuster knob on outside of machine to correct lens, most new ones should be electronicly thru wand or thru key pad on machine

Tip

Overhead Projector Tip- best results!!

For best results, slant the screen forward slightly so it meets at a 90 degree angle with the projected image light beam. In not, then a keystone effect results where the projected image is taller on top or on the sides; in other words, the projected image is a parallelogram, not a square.

In projector menu you will find a setting called 'keystone correction'. Use horizontal and vertical keystone correction to correct the projected image.

Image is upside down on the screen

Alot of projectors (being all projectors that are designed to be hung from a roof) have an image flip function. This is because when you install a projector in a roof you have to flip the projector upside down so the projector doesn't have to be pointed down and doesn't cause any problems with keystoning.
If you have just bought a new projector and installed it in the roof or perhaps bought it second hand and are projecting from the floor (when the previous owner may have had it in the roof), you will need to go through the menu screen until you find this setting. I don't know exactly what Epson call this function but it should be in there somewhere. If you have it on the floor you want image flip off, if you have it in the roof you want vertical image flip on, horizontal image flip is for when your projecting onto a special screen surface from behind the screen.

What is an Overhead Projector?

An overhead projector is a very basic but reliable form of projector. The overhead projector displays images onto a screen or wall. It consists of a large box containing cooling fan and an extremely bright light, with a long arm extended above it. At the end of the arm is a mirror that catches and redirects the light towards the screen.
An overhead projector can be used to enlarge images onto the screen or wall for audiences to view.

The fact of its continuous use in schools and colleges across the nation shows the perseverance of this classroom essential. But, when it breaks down...then what? Look below for a few tips on how to repair an overhead projector.
  • Ensure the wire is not loose from the plug by tugging gently on the cord. Cover any exposed or frayed wires with electrical tape, get a new wire and plug if there is significant damage.
  • Step 3Remove the top of the projector and compare the wiring with the diagram in the projector's manual. Check all the wires are connected as listed and none are missing. If you don't have the original manual use the model number located on the back label to get a replacement online.

My TI 86 is 6 years old and I have taken careof it well.

Try pressing (lightly) on the bottom border below the screen. If there is no change, try the top. If there is still no change, the power for your LCD may have become disconnected or shorted. There are external displays for these calculators intended for overhead projectors. If your school has one, you could try hooking it up to make sure the calculator itself still works.

In either case, it would be better to purchase a new calculator.

    Good Luck!

    Image problem

IF I understand the problem from the limited info in your question, the problem is a distorted picture on whatever surface [probably a wall, or screen] onto which the image is projected.

With all lenses, the axis [centerline of the lens projected] MUST be absolutely PERPENDICULAR [in both the vertical and horizontal planes] to the perfectly plane [flat] surface onto which the image is projected.

IF for example, the projector is mounted in a rear corner of the room, and the camera is aimed downward and to one side to project the image on the center of the opposite wall, or a screen located there, the image will be distorted. It will be larger on one edge [fartherist from the lens] and smaller on the opposite [nearest] edge.

If it is non-perpendicular in only one axis, then two opposite edges will be different lengths, and if out of perpendicular in two axis then no edges will be the same length.

The solution to this problem is that the center axis of the lens must be perpendicular to the surface projected on, in both vertical and horizontal axis.
