Hello! Below are step-by-step instructions for changing the belt on your Hoover S1147.

1. Rotate nozzle to the vertical position. Lift off front cover.

2. Remove the two bottom plate screws.

3. Pivot off bottom plate making sure to unhook center tab on inside edge of nozzle.

4. Remove agitator and used belt from nozzle.

5. Put new belt on agitator. Position agitator in nozzle orienting agitator end caps with slots on both sides of nozzle. The belt should line up with tab on inside of nozzle.

6. Attach belt to motor pulley.

7. Replace bottom place by first hooking it to center tab on inside of nozzle.

8. Reposition screws and front cover.

Hope this helps!

How do you change the battery in an oreck magnesium vacuum cleaner

At the back of the handle is the battery compartment, There is a simple turn knob to take the cap off to get to the battery. It takes a 2032 button battery. Hope this helps!

Oreck sqeals on start and stop

Probably has a roller brush with dry or dirty bearings. If the roller is removed usually the caps can pop off (be careful no bearings fall out!) and then cleaned. I would use a DRY lube not oil. Use Silicone or powdered lube like graphite / lock lube.

Thank you! Just loaded with 8 fresh D cell batteries and the unit collapsed. Opened bottom but that's for accessing bulb. Top opens to access battery chambers. What else do I need to do to have it open...

Please tell us what kind of vacuum has 8 D-cell battery's in it!

It sounds more like you have a big flashlight!

And what collapsed?

Your problem showed up under Vacuums-- so maybe there was a mistake in the system that entered your problem inhere with the vacuum cleaner guys?

8955 Upright Vacuum: How to change belt?...

Be sure to unplug your vacuum from the electrical outlet before proceeding!

-Turn your vacuum upside down so that the handle is resting on the floor and nozzle portion is resting on a work bench.
-Remove the 2 phillips screws from the metal bottom plate and set the bottom plate aside.
-Look at the right side of the brush roll. You will see a bent metal rod that attaches to the brush roll end cap. This is the clutch rod that allows your brush roll to spin or not depending on the position of the carpet/floor switch on the top of the nozzle. Pull this rod out of the brush roll clutch only. Leave the switch end of the rod where it is and just let the rod rest there.
-Pull the brush roll and old belt out and dispose of the old belt.
To install a new belt; put the new belt on the motor shaft first, next put the other end of the belt over the end of the brush roll and stretch belt and brush roll back in to place. Notice that on the brush roll end cap opposite of where the clutch rod goes, there is a metal piece with a slot cut into it. Be sure that this slot mates with the plastic stop in the nozzle so that the end cap cannot move.
Snap the clutch rod back in place and rotate the brush roll by hand to make sure the belt is not pinched.
Replace the bottom plate.

Belt change for eureka capture

Lie the vacuum down so it's completely flat, the back of it facing up. On the bottom of it, on the grey plastic, there are instructions. They say, to access the belt, remove the screws numbered 1, 2, 3 & 4. Then look at the four corners of the bottom of the vacuum and you'll see these numbers. You may need a flashlight to actually see the screws because a couple of them are pretty deep inside the plastic. Loosen them with a long shafted, Phillips screwdriver. Stand the vacuum back up and the screws should just fall out. Then you can easily pop off the cover to change the belt.
