Solution:
1)Recovery mode - to get PC to recognize player -
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
2) To prevent future occurrences - make sure you have downloaded the installation CD or software - open Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips D) - click on Update - twice - the player will upgrade to the latest firmware

WAIT A WHILE, THIS HAPPENS IF THE BATTERY IS COMPLETELY DRAINED. LET IT CHARGE A WHILE. OTHERWISE CHECK THE CABLE, IT MAY HAVE A PROBLEM. I HOPE THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM

Displaying "cnt NAND format"

i think that may be a problem with NAND memory chip, witch is your mp3 2GB memory chip, it may be because of shocks or something like thate. A reheating of this chip may solve your problem, easiest way to do it is to go on a mobile service and ask them to do it for you

Ipod nano 3rd generation wont connect with windows xp

I have the same ipod and had the same problem - I ignored itunes and the computer and went to "real player" and treated it like an mp3 player and in real player you pick your music you want to burn to a cd but go to "device" column and change the destination from burning to your internal cd burner to the external drive which is the ipod and it downloaded perfect! hope this helps

Your circuit board was still moist or corroded when you charged it. This caused a short in your player. There is no telling what the future holds for it. Any electronic that gets wet must get disassembled and dried out otherwise it will corrode the connections.
