Are you using a filter with your air conditioner? Are the coils full of dirt, dust or hair? Remove the filter and look under it or it there is no filter check where the filter should be and tell me if you can see daylight out the other side from inside your home? If not, you might be able to save the compressor by purchasing an appliance fin comb from a repair shop and some spray on coil cleaner that disolves. The fin comb is used by sticking it in the coils and pulling downward. This straightens the coils and removes anything caught up inside them. After combing it out use a spray on cleaner that disolves until you can see through the coils. Turn the A/C on fan and click to air and turn the temp up and down to see if your compressor will engage after the cleaning and let me know if this solves your problem.

Could be a relay, solenoid, or low on freon. Needs to be tested to find out problem.

Compressor clutch engaged with heat selected on 2004 silverado

Sounds like a problem with the selector switch or the HVAC control module, or the PCM.
The PCM thru the control module grounds the compressor relay when the compressor is needed.

Vt aircon compressor wont engage

check the freon, if there isn't enough it won't engage, could also be the low pressure switch or a fuse.

My air conditioner is blowing warm air on the driver side and cold on the passenger side

see this steps and think with clearly and logically NOT feared. God bless you
checkmark.gif Start with the compressor. Does it engage when you turn on the A/C?
If so, the compressor is working and the A/C system probably contains enough refrigerant to make cold air, so the problem is inside the HVAC unit. Replace the motor that controls the blend air door (this is a difficult job and best left to a professional since it involves tearing apart the HVAC unit -- about an 8 to 10 hour job!).
If the compressor does not engage when you turn on the A/C, see if it will run by jumping the compressor clutch wire directly to the battery (use a fused jumper wire). If the compressor works when you jump it, and the A/C blows cold air, the system contains refrigerant and the fault is likely a bad A/C compressor clutch relay or a bad clutch cycling switch or pressure switch.
If the compressor does not engage when you jump it, the problem is a bad compressor clutch.
If the clutch engages but the compressor does not turn (the belt will start to slip and squeal), the compressor is locked up and you need a new compressor.
If the compressor clutch engages and turns the compressor, but the A/C still does not blow cold air, the system is probably low on refrigerant and needs to be recharged.

Ac does not engage

Most vehicles have a low pressure switch that prevents the compressor from engaging so as to prevent damage to the compressor. You need to place a gauge set onto your AC to read the high and low sides of the system. Probably have lost enough gas(R134) over time to prevent the compressor from engaging. You can jump the pressure switch to check it with a simple jumper wire.

1996 Lincoln Town Car. The A/C compressor will not engage. Freon is not an issue because I have by-passed the low pressure cycle switch. The control in the car is on "max ac". I have also replaced the A/C...

Is the solenoid clutch holding on to engage the compressor, if not the relay or the fuse or the sitch is not active. check the connection to the relay.
If solenoid is turning the compressor then there is no pumping and so the cooling does not happen. It can be failure within the compressor, needs an overhauling .

When your R-134a runs too low it will NOT engage the compressor. You need to refill your a/c system before the clutch will engage, I also suggest finding the leak.

A/c compressor engages intermittently

Check the connections on the plug going to the compressor clutch and on the pressure switch on the low side. Also check the gap on the clutch. It may be too wide after where to engage correctly. Good luck.
