Hi, thank you for helping. The issue is not with videos. I am talking about the computer image. ie desktop, or any screen that I bring up ie google. I had no problem with this monitor and my pc, but when I hooked my mac pro tower to it, the image does not fill the screen. I did call the tech dept at Samsung, and the girl finally told me that samsung is not compatible with Apple products. I really don't believe that. I called the tech dept at Apple, and they said I may have a defective monitor. I don't believe that either since it works fine with my pc.
Could it be a graphics card issue in the Mac?
    Any suggestions?

Hi again, the graphics card is Radeon x1900. It is odd that my 10 year old pc will work with this monitor just fine. The image fills the screen. But the Mac Pro tower, which is only 4 years old. does not support this monitor. Could it be that I got a really outdated card, or it is defective? Is there any site to download an upgrade, if needed? Or do I need to purchase a new card?

Hi there
The monitor that you have has a resolution 1920 X 1080,which is also called full HD(high definition) resolution,It will run all the videos which are recorded in 16:9 format perfectly (Occupying full screen). However if you are playing a video which is not recorded on High definition(HD) you will see black panels on side and sometimes on top as well.So you will have to switch the mode (as you did ) to adjust to the monitor's resolution to that of video ,that you are playing.
As videos are meant for different purposes (like for mobile,CRT monitiors, wide screen viewing) they come in different video resolution.
To solve this you need to ensure that you buy or view full HD videos or see that the video or a movie is recorded in 16:9 format for wide screen monitors. In short this is an issue based on video format not your tv.
If you have more queries please comment and let me know, and I will be more than happy to assist you to further resolve your issue.
I will appreciate your feedback and positive rating.
Thank you.

Nice to receive your comment with more product details

Seems like people in Samsung and Apple dont want to do that little extra work and help

Yes you are right. With the information that you have give about your mac pro tower.I can see (from Apples website) that it comes with ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics or ATI Radeon HD 5770 Graphics (correct me if I am wrong). Then I went and checked the technical specification of this video card.

Below are some detail of supported resolution by this card

As you will see the maximum supported resolution by the graphics card is less than the samsung monitor that you have(width wise it exceeds and length wise it falls short). So it fills the monitor length wise first completely but as it do that it adjusts the width thus leaving those black panels.

So its is just a compatibility issue with card with TV.I feel Apple should have heard you properly as they should know about this very common issue

If you have more queries please comment and let me know, and I will be more than happy to assist you to further resolve your issue

    Hello again

I would request you to please get in touch with Apple regarding this compatibility issue
Regarding driver updates you can get the latest updates from AMD's website

Before buying a new card do consult Apple about new card's compatibility with old motherboard and your monitor.

I will look for more details and let you know regarding this matter in a few hours
    Thank you.

As promised, I checked for details about your Graphics Card and it becomes apparent that the card does not support Full HD that we are trying to achieve.

Here is the page from the manufacturers website that lists the specifications of your Graphics Card:

An upgrade of the Graphics Card would help you achieve the Full HD output on the monitor.

The age of the computer does not have a bearing on the display capabilities.
While it is given that the newer computer will be more in line with new technology but it is not always so and there are variables.

In your case, for instance, the capability of the Ghaphics Card is what will determine the output that you will get on your Full HD Samsung BX2250 monitor.

    I hope this helps.

Your game does not natively run at the same resolution as Windows. Check the video/graphics settings in the game itself to adjust the resolution to 1920x1080.
Note that increasing the resolution to this, will drastically increase the load on your graphic card.

Had the same problem too... It's because it's set to underscan. To remove the black border, right click desktop and click Catalyst Control Center. Click the Graphics tab on the upper left portion of the Catalyst and choose desktop and displays. Right click the picture of the monitor at the lower part of the screen and choose Configure. At that screen, Click the 'Scaling Options' tab and move the slider all the way right to Overscan.

Hi gurmeet,

What I suspected from your description of problem is that there is some kind of compatibility issue or content protection when you plug in an additional HDMI to DVI converter.

I am also using an Airtel HD connection, though however, I wouldn't need any kind of converter because I am directly connecting HDMI cable to my LCD and it works like a wonder. I set up my box output resolution to 1080i and there is no display resolution mismatch. Not even at other resolutions.

Airtel is using 1920x1080 resolution in signal transmission, so the possibility of 1079 from there end is ruled out, otherwise, the same problem would have been observed when direct HDMI cable is being used. I hope you understand my point.

Now you might also ask why you weren't able to see this problem when you connect the monitor to your PC graphics card. I would like to tell you that graphic cards are very versatile and does have the capability of 1:1 pixel mapping, so there you wouldn't see any such problem.

read this link for more , where a person is able to match resolution using a similar converter.

I believe the converter you use isn't able to do 1:1 pixel mapping and is actually downgrading the resolution which your monitor is not able to support.

You can try out other resolution type from the STB and if you still see similar problems, then you may need to get an alternative converter.
Follow these steps to change the STB resolution type;
Enter the Menu from STB remote -> scroll to 'My Settings' -> Enter 'System Setup' -> 'HD Setup'. Here you change to a lower resolution and press ok from remote.

Resolution of your TV determent by source of the signal. FullHD (1920X1080) is available only from BD player, Upconverting DVD player or HD Media player. Here is no broadcast in 1080P (1920X1080)

Does your notebook have HDMI or DVI outputs? If no, then use standard VGA cable, which is supported by this TV and quality is fine also on 1920x1080 resolution. Also for VGA input on TV you can use almost any resolution the notebook supports (for HDMI only few resolutions are supported).

Connecting lenovo t61 with samsung ln40a650

The LN40A650 supports 1920x1080 resolution from VGA. I know this because I've done it. It will also support lower resolutions, but certainly not higher. Drop your resolution to something low like 640x480, plug into the LN40A650, then up the resolution to 1920x1080. If this doesn't work it's 1 of 2 problems. It could be the refresh rate. Go to your display settings, click on Advanced, choose the Monitor tab, and set the screen refresh rate to 60Hz. If this still doesn't work it means your video card won't support that high of a resolution.

Samsung Syncmaster 245BW sync problem

If you are plugged into a NVIDIA graphics card, use the NVIDIA control panel scaling option to "do not scale" then set the resolution to 1920x1080. This monitor is a 16:10 aspect ratio instead of 16:9 like HD TV's, so it is necessary to turn of scaling from the software and thus give black bars.
