My LG LW65-P4XP died... no video. when booting a get 3 beeps ( 1 long and two shorts ) sometimes not even the beeps i get. where i can get a replacement for the mothard , and how much it will cost ?

I think this is a laptop, if it is, and your graphics chip will probably be part of the motherboard.
If this is the case then its a new laptop.
Your not going to be able to replace it

1.General POST (initial system boot) BEEP Codes
If you do not know the BIOS manufacturer, the following will be the general Beep codes:
• 1 Long and 1 Short Beep ?Bad Motherboard
• 1 Short Beep and nothing else happens ?Disk Drive/Video Related Problems
• 1 Long and 2 Short Beeps ?Bad Video Card
• 1 Continuous Beep or Non-stop short Beeps ?Bad Power Supply

2.American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) BEEP Codes
• 1 Beep - Memory refresh timer error.
Reseat the memory, or replace with known good modules.

Beeps 4-7, 9-11
Fatal error indicating a serious problem with the system. Consult your system manufacturer.
Before declaring the motherboard beyond all hope, eliminate the possibility of interference by a malfunctioning add-in card. Remove all expansion cards except the video adapter.
?If the beep codes are generated even when all other expansion cards are absent, the motherboard has a serious problem. Consult your system manufacturer.
?If the beep codes are not generated when all other expansion cards are absent, one of the add-in cards is causing the malfunction. Insert the cards back into the system one at a time until the problem happens again. This will reveal the malfunctioning add-in card.
3.Award Bios BEEP Codes
1 Long Beep: Memory problem
Explanation: There is a failure of some sort related to the system memory.
Diagnosis: The first bank of memory probably has a failure of some sort; this is usually just a physical problem such as an incorrectly inserted module, but may also mean a bad memory chip in a module. It is possible that there is a failure related to the motherboard or a system device as well.

• 1 Long, then 2 Short Beeps: Video error
Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
• 1 Long, then 3 Short Beeps: Video error
Explanation: The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. It can also be a motherboard issue.
• Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem
Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.
• Other Beep Codes
Explanation: You have encountered an Award BIOS beep code I do not have documented.
Diagnosis: Award says that any beep patterns other than "one long followed by two short" are likely problems with the system memory. However, of late they have started adding other beep codes to their systems as well.
4.Phoenix BEEP Codes

• 1-1-3
Explanation: Your computer can't read the configuration information stored in the CMOS.
Diagnosis: Replace the motherboard.

• 1-1-4
Explanation: Your BIOS needs to be replaced.
Diagnosis: Got to your motherboard manufacturers web site and download the new Bios.
• 1-2-1
Explanation: You have a bad timer chip on the motherboard.
Diagnosis: Replace the motherboard.
• 1-2-2 or 1-2-3 or 1-3-1 or 1-3-3 or 1-3-4 or 1-4-1
Explanation: Motherboards is bad.
Diagnosis: Replace the motherboard.
• 1-4-2
Explanation: Some of your memory is bad.
Diagnosis: Go to Basic Trouble Shooting
• 1-3-1
Explanation: Motherboards is bad.
Diagnosis: Replace the motherboard.
• 2-_-_ Any combination of beeps after two
Explanation: Some of your memory might be bad.
Diagnosis: Go to Basic Trouble Shooting
• 3-1-_
Explanation: One of the chips on your motherboard is broken.

The user manual for your motherboard has beep info:

One short beep when displaying logo NORMAL

Long beeps in an endless loop NO DRAM INSTALLED OR DETECTED

One long beep followed by 3 short beeps Video Card not found or video card memory bad.

High frequency beeps when system is working CPU Overheated running at lower speed.

Also I saw this about ram and voltage level settings in the bios

The issue may be related to the voltage setting of your memory modules. The standard operating voltages of DDR2 and DDR3 memory modules, as defined by JEDEC, are 1.8V and 1.5V, respectively. However, some of the memory modules require higher operating voltage than JEDEC's standards. In such case, the memory may sometimes not be able to function properly without enough voltage.

When you encounter instability issue, please first check the operating voltage of your memory modules, and please manually set the memory voltage accordingly in the BIOS.

do you know the make and version of your BIOS?
  • 1 long and 1 short beep = bad motherboard
  • 1 short and nothing else happens= disk drive/video related problem.
  • 1 long and to short beeps = bad video card
  • 1 continuous beep or non-stop short beeps= bad power supply
  • 3 short beeps = bad memory

I have an Asus p4s533-mx motherboard which boots and runs fine (sometimes). But when I perform a warm boot, it often won't pass POST. The beep code is one long and two short. If I power it down and let it...


The response from ASUS tech support - It's a standard Award BIOS, so they're the standard beep codes.

So I wrote the following on page 3-4 of my user guide:

1 long + 2 short = Video adaptor error
1 long + 3 short = No video card or bad video RAM

high freq beeps while running = Overheated cpu

repeating high/low = cpu problem

repeating (endless loop) = memory error

the vga board has failed, its a very common problem in acer laptops, you can get a replacement part from www.acerparts.com im not sure if they ship into us but for europe thats where I get my parts.
my acers vga failed two times, ones within warranty and 12months after that, I have to say that acer products are really bad quality, I'm not sure about the latest models but from what I've seen the vga chipsets have real issues with the motherboards and keep failing over and over again.


I have not looked inside your model but the vga is either integrated into the motherboard = that means the repair will cost the whole motherboard, better to buy a new one.

if your model has a removeable vga like mine does, then you can consider changeing it to a new one. contact acer parts.

One of the covers in the bottom is the memory, one is network and last one I don't remember.

ASUS A8S-X beeps sometimes on startup!


Hi 1 Long, then 3 Short Beeps: Video error The BIOS is unable to access the video system in order to write any error messages to the screen. Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the video card, or the memory on the video card. Remove your video card inspect it for damage and then re insert it. Try rebooting and see if the error remains. If so replace the battery on the mother board and try a different video card. If you have a video card built in then remove 1 srick of the RAM and re boot. Do the same with the other stick. If the error still remains then there is a fault in the Mother Board I hope this helps!
