Please clarify why you think you have no drivers? Have you checked to see that they are not installed by going into your hardware manager and then looking for them? Once you reinstalled them, did you go into sound by going through the control panel and try turning windows sounds on? Have you checked the volume of your speakers to make sure that they are not on mute? Is there a picture of a speaker on the bottom right side of your screen? Does it have an X on it? Can you right click with your mouse and adjust the sound? Please advise and I will try and help you.

Open the Control panel 2. Open the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. 3. Verify the "Place volume icon in the taskbar" checkbox is checked. If this option is not available or is grayed out, skip to the next section of this document. 4. If you were able to check this box, click ok and close out of this window and the Control Panel. 5. Double-click the sound icon in the Systray and verify that all the sound volumes are mid-way or higher.
Check Windows services. Right Click My Computer and Manage. Choose Services and Application > Services. Choose "Windows Audio" and set to Automatic and Start. Now next you can do is If you open control panel & click device manager the window that opens will show a list of all installed hardware. Look for anything with an exclamation mark beside it, or to do with sound. If you see anything, right click it, check it isn't Disabled then select "Properties." The next window should have some tabs along the top, the one you are looking for is "Driver," you should now see an "Update driver" button. Check ur sound card information by doing this Click on start menu Click on Run Type dxdiag, enter Click on the sound tab There is button of test direct sound click on this check if there is sound Check ur registry. Check if the sound registry key is enabled or disabled. There could be an error in registry, run registry cleaner reg in out to scan for errors. download real tech ac 97 driver

I have the BSOD. i went to safe mode and the list of drivers came up but nothing happened afterwards. Just stay on list

OK try this, when dell screen comes up on keyboard hit CTRL+ F11 twice only then you will see Dell pc restore by Symantec.Hit on restore and hit on i agree and select the option Restore the pc to Dell factory settings and then it will restore the pc
Otherwise, you will have to use a Windows DVD and boot on it. Perform a "Repair" Install. OR if that will not work, reformat and reinstall.

Activating mic on Dell dimention 8300-- I connected mic then went to sounds, audio devices then volume and advanced then option & properties & record. Nothing? Please tell me what I'm not doing....

Make sure that the drivers are loaded properly, Start>Right-Click "My Computer">Management>Device Management. If you have any splats under your Device Management you may just need to reload the driver. Dell Dimension 8300 drivers are here
http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=gen&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_8300
And also make sure it is plugged into the pink jack.

Cant get the mic to work on my dell , using xp. whats the deal

Open volume control.
When the box with all the sliders opens up click on OPTIONS (top left)
Click PROERTIES
Tick RECORDING then clck OK
The slider box will swap to the RECORDING slider box
Select the one you want to use as the recording SOURCE and put a tick in the box at the bottom. (in your case MIC)
You can also set the recording level here too. (1/2 way is a good starting point)
Now click OPTIONS once again
Then PROPERTIES
Now tick PLAYBACK and then OK
You should now be back in the normal playback slider box
Whilst you were in the properties for either recordeing or playback you may have noticed a list of devices to show then as sliders tick them as needed

Volumn not working after moving to another room.

Make sure the speakers are connected to the correct jack (Speaker out Green, Mic In Pink)

Make sure speakers are plugged in and turned on.

If you have integrated audio built in to the motherboard, make sure Audio is enabled in the BIOS. If you have a soundblaster or other 3rd party Audio card installed in the motherboard expansion slot, then make sure integrated audio is OFF in the BIOS.

Download and reinstall sound card drivers from support.dell.com

Dell dimension 4600 microphone problem

If this is a clean install (formatted drive and reinstalled) then the likelihood of it being a driver issue is greatly reduced. Did you download the drivers from Dell?
Secondly, the fact that the audio works makes me think it is a hardware issue. Since audio and the mic are connected in the device manager, the easiest solution might be to replace the sound with a PCI soundcard. They are fairly inexpensive, and they will generally include the drivers with the disk.
