Physical Setup of a LinkSys Router Each model of LinkSys router will differ slightly, but the general design is similar across all models. Therefore, the setup is similar across all models.

  1. Plug the Ethernet cable from your broadband Internet provider into the port labeled "Internet"
  2. Plug another Ethernet cable into one of the available ports
  3. Plug the other end of that same cable into an Ethernet port on your PC
Basic configuration tasks.:-
Simply open your Web Browser
Go to the URL http://192.168.1.1 This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password.
The username is either blank or "admin" and the default password is "admin".
Once you are past the login screen, you are able to access (and change) a plethora of configuration options for your router.
Don't be worried by the enormous number and variety of options, your LinkSys router ships with default settings that enable it to work right out of the box in most environments.
If this is aWireless Router then change the SSID to identify the router as your own and configuring WEP to encrypt your wireless traffic.

First thing to do is plug in your router. Next, remove the cable from your modem, and plug it into the respective port on your router (will say "DSL" either above or below it). Next, connect an ethernet cable from the computer, to the router. Finally, log into your router via the web interface (usually 192.168.1.1)

Monitor flickers black and comes back on...I am stumped...

userunnown,

Probably shouldn't have posted about the voltage thing. Power is checked with any wall outlet, and a multimeter set to AC Voltage. Or using a voltage tester. Pardon me if I overstep my bounds, but I do Not recommend you try this procedure. No matter WHAT, I wish you to be safe.

{Electrician? Minimum charge of 1 hour (Usually), even if it takes 4 minutes. May be additional charges also. In my area? Average is around $42 an hour. If we were 'talking' about the Low DC Voltages your Power Supply puts out, I would have no problem, (And have), advising you }

Now 'looking' at the total picture in front of us, it would seem the common 'denominator' is the SSD harddrive. Wouldn't you agree?

How to know? Try using a SATA harddrive.
(Feel foolish posting that to YOU, sheesh! )

Verify that the software you are trying is COMPATIBLE with the operating system on the computer.

Try removing the software and re-installing it in SAFE mode before plugging in the USB or Ethernet cable.

I got a compaq evo d510 refurbished and I have ATT extreem internet service and 2 wire router conected to comp with erthnet cable, It will not connect after installing att cd. It keeps trying to use dial...

Since you are using the Internet I must assume you are using the Dial up settings. I may expect that this AT&T service is DSL. In Internet Settings there is a tab marked "Connections" and the Dial Up settings are set to "Always Dial My Default Connection". Click on "Never Dial a Connection" and this problem should be solved. Next thing is to ensure that the DSL connection is connected properly since if this is not setup correctly you won't even get online until you reset the "Connections" tab to the original setting.

Broadband/Thompson Router problem. DSL comes up as not connected happened 3hours ago. everything was working fine then. Tried switching off. and rebooting to no avail

turn off the dsl modem, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on. do the same to the router. you may have lost the dsl service entirely so you may want to contact the provider if this doesn't help.
additionally, you may want to swap the ethernet ports on the router to the pc to an empty one. a port occasionally will fail. (had it happen to me before).

Emachine W3107, DSL won't connect

Hate to tell you this but . . . Turning off your computer isn't much help if you have a stike on phone or power lines not too distant from home.
Even many supposed surge suppressors aren't worth much for protecting electronics.
If you are in a lightning prone area, I would highly recommend the installation of a 'whole house protector' which is installed at your main breaker box.
The cost is typically <$300 US and they come with insurance for (mostly) $25,000 replacement cost.

Unless you go that route, I strongly suggest you actually UNPLUG your system and any other electronic items you value when you get the first rumbles - even then perhaps too late.

With the various failures you describe, I suspect your 'southbridge' chip on the system board is damaged. If this is the case, the board will need to be replaced at a minimum.
After that, you still don't know if memory, drives, keyboard etc. will be functional.

For a description of the typical internal PC layout, look at this:

Fax config

Actually, you cannot send faxes through a DSL modem. You have to use a phone line or send it through the internet (not directly through the modem), at least from what I know...
