Xbox 360 problem

Hey,

I dont know if anyone can help with this but.... I have got a jvc surround system which is connected to my xbox with a digital optical cable.
When i watch films i get full 5.1 surround (all the speakers are lit up on the display and the cable is fine).
however when i select 5.1 output in the dashboard settings i hear nothing at all on any of my games.
I can select stereo which then 2 speakers light up with dolby digital 2 and i do have sound from all speakers but not 5.1.

Is my receiver up the pictures? or have i missed a setting somwhere

I have the same problem, and I think is a problem of compatibillity that can not be soved.(probably, the xbox, for games uses 96 khz in 5.1, and jvc only supports 48 khz). But luck for us !!

Umm dude this is due to the fact that the Xbox 360 does not transmit 5.1 surround sound through optical leads you have to use standard red/white cables

I am trying to get surround sound to all my devices, I have a blu ray 5.1 surround sound ht-f4500, an RCA 46LA45RQ and an xbox 360 slim, also a satelite box how can i make all of this support surround...

Connect the sound outputs from all the satellite box and the xbox to the sound inputs on the back of the ht-4500. Do not connect the tv sound output to the ht. As an example of the connections see this:

Not getting true surround sound

The only way to get Dolby 5.1 audio out of the Xbox will be via fiber optic cable from the Xbox to a Dolby Digital amplifier - which will output a decoded 5.1 signal to a 6 channel amplifier and 5 speakers and one sub-woofer. I doubt the Logitech speaker system has a Dolby 5.1 decoder built in with the amplifier for under $100, but I can't say for sure. If the Logitech has a an optical (or TOSLink) input, connect it to the Xbox and follow the instructions below.

To configure your audio settings, follow these steps:
  1. Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
  2. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Console Settings.
  3. In the Console Settings area, select Audio.
  4. In the Audio Settings area, configure settings for analog output or digital output:
    • Analog output settings:
      • Dolby Pro Logic II: Select this setting for stereo systems or Dolby Pro Logic II-compatible systems.
      • Mono: Select this setting for systems that do not support stereo output. Note If you have connected to Xbox LIVE and downloaded any AutoUpdates, the Mono option will not be available.
    • Digital output settings:
      • Digital Stereo: Select this setting to use digital stereo output.
      • Dolby Digital 5.1: Select this setting to use Dolby Digital output.
      • Enable WMA Pro: Select this setting to enable WMA Pro pass-through if your receiver supports the WMA Pro format.
Note You must use one of the following cables to support digital output:
  • Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable
  • VGA HD AV cable
  • S-video AV cable
  • Advanced SCART AV cable
  • Japanese HDAV D-connector AV cable

Power on your Xbox console and allow it to load to the Xbox dashboard.

Press the green Xbox controller on the guitar. All four lights surrounding the button should start flashing.

Press the connect button on your Xbox console (It's next to the Memory Card #2 slot).

Press the wireless button on the "Guitar Hero 3" guitar (Look for the on the bottom of the guitar).

Wait for the four lights to stop flashing, with one light becoming a solid green. Your air guitar should now be connected remotely to the Xbox.

2 red lights fans don;t work

Hey Marsh2Man,

It's not your fans that's causing the problem. It's the XBOX itself. The Xboxes generally overheat and this has been a big problem for Microsoft. Alot of companies are actually reflowing these system, reheating the solder under the chips allowing them to connect back down to the points on the board.

You will need your system reflowed. Contact a repair shop.

Xbox 360 and bose surround sound no video

If your TV is HD, you should definitely be connecting the component video cables (green, blue and red) from the 360 to the TV (the 321 will not do video pass-thru from component cables). -Make sure you have a picture at this point. (TV switched to whichever input you connect the 360 to)
You can get an RCA extension cable for the audio portion (red and white) to connect to the 321 for audio. You could also connect an optical audio cable to the 321. An optical cable must be assigned from the system menu to work..
Let me know if this helps.
