Sony Digital Camera DSC-P92 Problem

Not a good idea to delete your pictures using your computer and some Sony
models will not allow you to do this.
To delete all your pictures, use your camera. Look in your manual for
FORMAT. This item will be on one of your menus. You select FORMAT to delete
all photos and prepare your memory stick for new photos.
camera properties like flash mode, picture size, battery level etc. I think
something is wrong with the driver.
since i have Windows XP. I can save pictures and movies fine. However, I
cannot delete them off the camera through Windows. But, if i change the
camera's mode to "Normal", i can delete them because of the memory stick
being seen as a drive. Please help out because its really starting to bother
me.

Don't let it bother you - just use "normal" mode. It's faster anyway :)
Note that "normal" mode is the camera's factory default.

The behaviour you describe is normal for that camera as well as the P72. If
you prefer PTP mode, you can still do file deletion directly on the camera.

TY Yves and Anthony

I find the PTP mode more easier to use rather than normal. One thing its capable of is not letting the MemoryStick get formatted in FAT format. On further exploration, I found an application called PTP Manager by ImageMixer on the supplied ImageMixer CD. I tried to install it but it gives the following error message:

"PTP Manager cannot be installed in the current version of Windows."

Im thinking to myself what....? The FAQ section in the www.imagemixer.com site is very vague: they say that PTP Manager is compatible with all versions of windows, but there might be a conflict with something on my PC. I'm thinking maybe the Scanner & Camera Wizard or Device Manager.

All the other apps on the CD work fine, and considering that all setup.inx files are more or less the same size it should work. I'm thinking if i can install PTP manager then I "should" be able to erase pix on the camera from the PC and get the PC to actually "see" camera info.

Sorry.... I'm a perfectionist :)

I hope this helps - the camera is great, PnP is fine, just some Microsoft features not exactly working.

TY again in advance

Tom I have a question for you along the same lines.  I have two different
model sony cameras, one dscF828 and dscP32.  I also have two computers one
using XP pro and the other using XP home.

I used to be able to connect both cameras using USB Normal mode on both
computers.  As of recent neither of the computers will recognize either
camera in normal mode.  It will only recognize them in PTP mode.  This is
particularly combersome since whenever I travel I take a lot of pictures and
prefer to have them deleted automatically.  Also there are some other
features in the camera wizard that are not a smooth in PTP mode as Normal
mode such as the order they are displayed.  Any pictures that have an
alternative fort such as RAW or email are moved to the bottem in the camera
wizard rather than shown in the order they were taken in Normal USB mode.

How can I get windows to use Normal mode like it did before.  The only thing
that has changed for me is that I have had a couple of updates in XP although
I dont know exactly when the problem started relevant to any updates.

Thanks

The Microsoft PTP driver only supports deleting images from the camera if
the camera's firmware supports the delete picture command. There are some
known issues with some Sony cameras. I would check with Sony and see if
there is a firmware update for your camera. Here's the firmware update page
for Cybershot camera's:

http://ciscdb.sel.sony.com/cgi -bin/swu-index.pl

The PTP driver is a limited driver, so it only can support what the firmware
on the camera supports. Here's more information on the PTP driver itself:

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/ device/stillimage/stillimg-con nect.mspx...

Hope this helps!
