VHS to DVD Dubbing Problem

I have a ZV450MW8A and can not get the system to dub from VHS to DVD-R. I've followed the instructions and it appears to start ie REC light and DB icon on then they blick off and nothing. I can copy to DVD using an external VHS player so it is not a recorder problem.

I have the same problem, however it worked once and I succesfully was able to dub VHS to DVD with model ZV457MG9 which I purchased from Radio shack for 249.00...I returned that one and purchased th ZV450MW8A at Walmart for less money 179.00 they appear to be the same unit, however the new one will not record as I said above. It comes up with a varied of errors including "this program is not recordable in +VR mode, or this program is not allowed to be recorded" the trouble shooting page in the manual is no help it just says you can't record either because the recording function encountered the copy prohibted program , or you are trying to record the copy-once program. Basicly I believe there is a restriction code on the VHS tape which will not allow it to be copied.

I purchased the recorder to convert my VHS library to DVD...looks like I can't do it...thinking of going back to Radio shack and paying th extra money for the other model and see if it will work...I successfully copied a VHS movie on that model then when I set up the cheaper model it would not record the very same movie it gave me a record error.

I am scratching my head. Not sure what do. The technology does not allow us to copy our old VHS library to DVD...at least not with the ZV450MW8A anyway. It clearly says on movies that it is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to copy...however I am only copying for my own personal viewing old technology VHS to DVD...not for distribution or sale.

    Anyone have any thoughts

I have the same problem. I saw a solution that said I needed to set my cable to a non-premium channel like NBC, ABC, PBS, CSPAN in order to allow the dubbing to occur without the +VR problem. At first, I thought it was a stupid solution; but guess what, It worked. I just set my cable box to from HBO to CSPAN,restarted the dubbing from VCR to DVD and it worked. Now the question is: Why do I have to change the channel when I'm dubbing from VCR to DVD?
This worked for me..still trying to figure out why it worked???

I got a Magnavox dubbing machine and could not record vhs to dvr because of the Macrovision copyright on the tapes. I had to buy a filter box for around 20.00 and now I can copy any tape.

I had this problem turn up all of a sudden. I had dubbed over 20 VHS tapes to DVD. Suddently I was getting this error. I solved it by going to setup and resetting everything to factory default. Problem went away. Hope this helps someone else.

How do you record dvd to vhs and from vhs to dvd

For VHS to DVD, put the tape to dub in the VHS slot and a blank DVD in the DVD tray. Make sure the DVD is compatible with the DVD recorder (see the recommended disc list) and is unfinalized if you are using a R/W disc. Close the tray. Set the unit to VCR mode with the DVD/VCR button. Advance the tape to the place that you want the recording to start. Then press the Dubbing button (either on the remote or the unit itself). Select the recording mode (SP, LP etc), highlight Dubbing then press Enter or Dubbing. Press Stop to interrupt the recording.

For DVD to VHS, put a blank tape in the VCR (make sure the protection tab has not been broken off) and the DVD to duplicate in the DVD tray and close the tray. Put the unit in DVD mode by pressing the DVD/VCR button. Find the point at which you want to start recording the DVD. Again press Dubbing and set up the recording mode and highlight Dubbing and press Enter or Dubbing.

Note that copyprotected content can not be recorded.

The manual for this recorder is on the right side of the page here: http://www.lg.com/us/tv-audio-video/video/LG-dvd-recorder-RC897T.jsp . See page 48 for the screen captures of setting the recording mode part of the dubbing procedure.

I hope this helps.

Instructions on how to burn from my insignia DVD to VHS

my Insignia is a different model (NS-drVCR) but I always use the "DUBBING" button on the remote (which is basically the tech-term for a Recording-Transfer). The screen-dialog then shows VHS Dubbing to DVD with quality options to choose. I'm not as familiar with going the other way (from DVD to VHS) but I know that mine can since I've done it once with a similar method, starting with the DUB-button.

Put both your vhs and blank dvd into the player.
Go into VHS mode and press "Home" menu button.
Scroll across to "Easy Menu" and select "Dubbing".
Make sure you are at the place on your VHS where you want to record from and select the "Dubbing" button.
Press the Stop button to finish transfering.
When it has done recording file information, press eject once and select to finalize the disc.
And that's it!

I have a Magnavox ZV427MG9. I follow all directions in manual for dubbing VHS home movies to DVD but when I try to play the DVD back there's nothing on them. What am I doing wrong?

Depending on the procedure you may be pressing the record button instead of the D.Dubbing or Dubbing button. When recording from VHS to DVD you must first, load the blank DVD and VHS home movies, then play the VHS movies, then PAUSE the VHS movie when you want to START recording... then the only the you have to do is pressing the D.Dubbing button or the Dubbing button. If your VHS tapes starts to play after the Dubbing button is pressed you have been successful in Dubbing.

3) Scroll down, select "Finalize", press "OK"

4) Select "Yes", press "OK"

Finalizing will start.

--- have done this operation several times, works Ok.

close the disc tray.
2. Insert the VHS video tape you wish to copy into
the VCR deck.
3. Find the place on the VHS tape from which you
want to start dubbing using the PLAY, FF, REW

playback at the point from which you want to
record.
4. Press the DUBBING button on the Remote
Control or DUB on the front panel.
The Dubbing menu appears.
5. Use the arrow keys to select the desired Record
Mode: EP, LP, SP or XP.

7. To stop dubbing at any other time, press STOP (x).
