According to the manual, your camera can accept SD or MMC cards up to 1GB. Is the card you're trying to use bigger than that?

I cannot format a new 4 GB memory card on my Kodak Easyshare C875

The C875 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, which max out at 2GB.

No format memory card

Make sure the lock switch is set to off on the cards you are using. That would prevent you from using them.
