Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi, I have a strange problem ASUS X70IO laptop. CPU core Duo T6500, Ram 4Gb, and an nvida GEFORCE GT 120M 1gb. The Problem is that sometimes (randomly) my monitor became black with strange colored vertical lines. I think that it's not a video card problem because when the problem occurs if I connect the laptop to an external monitor the image on that monitor is normal. Another Strange thing is that if the black screen appears and I put the laptop on the Sleep mode, when i press a button the monitor returns normal. I had Windows vista and the problem occured a lot of time. Now with windows 7 the problem is rare but it's not solved. Can it be a driver problem? or an Hardware one (monitor or cables)? How can I solve it?

ASUS P5KPL-AM SE supports up to 4GB RAM. I think that 1GB RAM is shared with the PCI Express Graphic Card.

For further details about your CPU and Graphic processor, I suggest that you download two small free utilities

These usefull utilities will provide you all the additional details.

Hi,
This is definitely a display issue ,going black could be the inverter or cable, as you are getting vertical line, it seems you need to change the display. It seems the heat produced by the video card in your system is too high if the cooling is not enough it might give you this problem due to over heating. Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 105 C for nvida GEFORCE GT 120M.

The screen resolution for your laptop is WXGA++(1600 x 900) which is 17",for this kind of display I would say display nothing less than 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 is high defination (HD) display.

The GRAPHICS card you have in the system it has

  • Maximum Digital Resolution 2560x1600
  • Maximum VGA Resolution 2048x1536
  • Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 105 C
  • Maximum Graphics Card Power (W) 50 W
Try to decrease the hardware acceleration of the video card and check how it works.Other wise replace the display.
