    Removing the
    CMOS Battery

The CMOS settings on most systems
are buffered by a small battery that is attached to the
motherboard. (It looks like a small watch battery). If you
unplug the PC and remove the battery for 10-15 minutes, the
CMOS may reset itself and the password
should be blank. (Along with any other machine specific
settings, so be sure you are familiar with manually
reconfiguring the BIOS settings before you do this.) Some manufacturers backup the power to the CMOS
chipset by using a capacitor, so if your first attempt fails,
leave the battery out (with the system unplugged) for at least
24 hours. Some batteries are actually soldered onto the
motherboard making this task more difficult. Unsoldering the
battery incorrectly may damage your motherboard and other
components, so please don't attempt this if you are inexperienced.
Another option may be to remove the CMOS chip from the
motherboard for a period of time.
    Note: Removing the battery
to reset the CMOS will not work for all PC's, and almost all of
the newer laptops store their BIOS passwords in a manner which
does not require continuous power, so removing the CMOS battery
may not work at all. IBM Thinkpad laptops lock the
hard drive as well as the BIOS when the supervisor password is
    set. If you reset the
BIOS password, but cannot reset the hard drive password, you may
not be able to access the drive and it will remain locked, even
if you place it in a new laptop. IBM Thinkpads have special
jumper switches on the motherboard, and these should be used to
    reset the system.

Hello there.

As you haven't said which password needs a reset, whether it be the Windows password or a BIOS password, first of all i would try the 'emergency boot cd', this free download will let you reset your Windows password.

Please click http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=80024 and choose ' Worldwide Content Distribution Network' then your download will begin.

Try EBCD and get back to us if you need futher help with this issue.

Hope this helps.

    Hello again.

Thank you for getting back to us. I have been spending some time trying to locate a service manual or repair manual for this notebook, but it seems Fujitsu hides this information well :-)

I know this is not your exact notebook, but we can use this image as an example, to find your CMOS battery.

Here is the picture with the thin sheet removed.

    Hope this helps.

You don't. Passwords are a security feature stopping people from stealing private data. Ask the owner for the password or purchase a new hdd and start again.

Can I install a new power jack in my Lifebook C2210? The power jack is not expensive.

It's pretty easy but if you don't get all the old solder off right away, you'll have to keep reheating it until it comes off so you can get the new one to fit properly....which can lead to the motherboard becoming de-laminated, which could render it completely useless

This sounds like an administrator password. Generally this p/w is left as password. Try password all lower case and try Password with capital P.

Sure, on EBay. A search by using the terms Fujitsu Lifebook Laptop in that order and should get you the most results. Click here to go to the results page. That I came up with doing just that. Make sure you have a reputable seller and ask them questions of some sort to see if they easily speak with you in a friendly fruitful manner. If they don't I wouldn't buy from them.

Those are great laptops and there are plenty of them in use.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Regards,
Worldvet
