Question about Poulan Garden

3 Answers

I have a Poulan Pro 031 weed trimmer "Hand me down" which doesn't have fuel lines. I ordered and have all the parts needed i.e. fuel lines , fuel filter, air filter ,primer bulb . I need schematic or layout how to connect . Any knowledge that you may pass on would be extremely helpful. Also I cannot remove the spark plug which seems to be "frozen" in the housing. I have tried using wd 40, lock ease, blaster lubricants but to no avail. I do have all the proper tools and I am mechanically very handy. Again any help would graciously be appreciated. Thank You

Thank you for your reply but you didn't answer my immeadiate Question. My question about the spark plug was answered which I presumed would be your reply but not your answer to the former but thank you any way but I need to go further.

Thanks for your input but none of manuals suggest or show anything on how to replace fuel lines. I have been to this particular site multiple times so what you are telling me is nothing I don't already know. This site is for basic user or operating Instructions. Again it does not contain the informaion I need.

Hi Bob. To remove that frozen plug put your plug wrench on it and gently tap the handle of the wrench a few times. It will break free. REgarding the poulan pro 031, here is the schematic you seek. Good luck with it! Joe

Bobmarin,

This site has the manual you need and is a great site for just about any manual, and it's free!!

Go to http://lawnandgarden.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/poulan/poulan_trimmer_product_list.html
and scroll down to your model. This should solve your dilema with hooking up the gas lines, etc.

As far as getting the plug out, if you have a good (ie. Craftsman) six sided socket on a 1/2 inch ratchet you should be able to get the plug out. When inserting the new unit purchase some antiseize at Lowes or Home Depot in the mower section and use this on the new plug threads. Next time you won't have a problem getting it out.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the generous rating.

After searching for a service manual on this device, I noticed that noone was having any luck locating one. I found a user manual at this site:
http://lawnandgarden.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/poulan/131.html
I would suggest you take the trimmer into a small engine repair shop, and see if they can tell you what you need to know, especially their thoughts and problems that could develop getting it out (it could be kind of "cemented" and cause problems or break and have to be drilled out).
Here is Poulan's support site to try for a service manual:
http://www.poulanpro.com/node7962.aspx
Good luck, and hope this helps.

Hi dennis
Sounds like to me that you have a problem with the high speed circuit of the carb...could be some trash in the jet or the jet may be out of adjustment...try adjusting the jet and try to go to full throttle after your adjustment

I have a PP131 string trimmer. I was replacing the primer bulb and the fuel lines broke. Does the Fuel Pick-up just lay down in the fuel tank or stands up in the hole in tank and does the line just fit...

The fuel pickup should lie in the bottom of the tank. It is weighted so that it will fall to the bottom of the tank when you turn the trimmer back and forth. The line should fit snugly through the hole in the tank so fuel does not spill out when the trimmer is turned up on its side.

You can find replacement fuel lines and filters here - PartsBuggy Fuel Line & Parts.

I need to kno what the item number (so I can order) the line tensioner on my Poulan Pro Link line trimmer---PPB 335. It is a small plastic trimmer head cover. Do I have to order the whole trimmer head?

Your string head is part number 26 in the diagram. Home Depot's Garden department has a wide variety of parts including universal string heads and heads for Homelite, Ryobi, etc. and possibly one that will fit your machine. A lot of these trimmers have Poulan engine and trimmer head parts. See if you can get the complete assembly off the trimmer (if you haven't already) and take it with you to the HD and match it with a new one. The price of parts from an online supplier plus shipping will be almost as much as a complete replacement head. If you shop Ebay, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of weed trimmer parts on there and some good deals to boot.

Can't find fuel filter on Poulan Pro weed eater. Acts as if it's fuel starved

Where is the fuel filter?
All gasoline engines have a fuel filter on the end of the fuel line in the fuel tank. Weed Eater recommends changing the fuel filter yearly. To remove the filter,
1. drain the fuel from the unit,
2. Pull the filter from the tank through the gas tank opening and remove it from the line,
3. Install the new filter on the fuel line and drop back in tank.

This is a Poulan Pro Link model PPB 250E week

Take the casing off of trimmer and see if the one of the wires to the on/off switch is touching the engine.
Or it may even be a fuel line. If this is the case, look for damage to the fuel lines as well.
