Trace the voltage to the main board and you must be able to confirm that the +B to the board is in order. since there is sound the front end sections are in order and the fault relates to a failed drive or video process. Check the power to the lamp circuits if there is no output this is the area to trace. if there is glow on the screen then there is absence of video output drive and it needs a trace. use of signal tracing and injection might be needed or you must get help to confirm before any board or costly spare is changed.

The two most common problems with Hitachi projectors are in the verticle sweep circuits or the convergence. Both can cause that symptom. The good news is it is likely to be bad connections on the convergence power pacs or the verticle output IC or both. If bad connections are observed it is a good idea to resolder all suspected bad connections in general. There is a remote chance that the problem is out of tolerance filters on either the main sweep board, or a problem on the PIP module circuits. Consult with a repair specialist if you need more information.
I just took my Mitsubishi WS-65315 65" in to be repaired for the same problem and was told that it needed a new main circuit board part number 930b899005 as was told they wanted to charge me $1100.00. So I told them not to do the repair and picked up my tv and found that same part at Sears parts for only $225.00. Some of these TV repair places are theifs.
