Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

When you replaced the clutch did you also replace the clutch liner? Also is the unit completely draining all the water in under 90 seconds? Both can cause the problem that you mentioned of having to push the tub to get it to spin. The cam driver can also cause the problem.

I hate to just post a link but this link is so extensive and informative I really believe it will help you resolve your spin problem:
http://sites.google.com/site/sublimeappliancerepair/washer-will-not-spin

Not the videos also about the motor coupler. One side of the motor coupler can be fine and the other side can be broken.
Most of the time only one side fails were the 3 drive pins shear off. Also there can be a brake problem.

Also the file below is the training manual that is better then the service manual for inspecting spin components
Go to this page and download file 787772 #4.

Take a look at the links and if you need help after that I will help you.

Hi the second link you should be able to download by rt clicking and then save as. If it comes up and says blocked for yur protection there are 2 ways to make it work. On the very bottom bar of your screen 1/3 way in from the left you will see a circle with an line though it. Rt click that and choose temporarily allow popups. The other way is when the bar pops up on the top of the screen do not choose the X click the bar only and aloow or ok the site.

With out you seeing the pictures it is going be really hard to explain because there are so many position sensitive things to verify as far as the cam follower, that acuates the brake and the clutch liner. I will repost in a different format that allows video afer I send this.

Trying now to add video links here:

Here is the whole play list for your washer.

The one you need is near the bottom of the page and is 3:55 secs long. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=...

This is the actual video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veP71xdNn...

When the transmission is pulled take a look at the white cam follower assy for size and position. That follower is what releases the brake. If the tab is broken or worn excessively the brake will either drag or not release. Also at the 4:40 second mark watch closely at the inspection you need to do.

Around the 6 min mark you see him lifing off the clutch lining. Just watch the installation checks when he puts it back on.

I think this will be a great help to you in sorting out why your washer needs a push to spin.

The video is better than words for sure. I really don't like to just post a link but in this cause it is pretty much un-avoidable.

Hello, I have a series 80 washer. I replaced the coupling and the washer spins and drains but doesn't agitate. The agitator cogs seem fine. The timer hums and I smell a burning oder. Timer or clutch? HELP!

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

This problem points to a couple of places:

(The clutch is only used during the spin mode)

The first unfortunately is the motor. Kenmore / Whirlpool top load direct drive washers use a reversing motor.

When in agitate mode, the motor turn one way, When in spin mode it turns the other way for draining and spinning.

I'd check the following first before assuming that it's the motor though.

First, I'd pull the agitators and check for worn or damaged splines inside the agitator or on the agitator shaft.

Following is a description of how to take them out.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

If the agitator and shaft are OK, the problem may be in the transmission.

See the following Whirlpool / Kenmore installation and service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

I'd also look at the troubleshooting section of the manual.

Starting at page 10, you'll see a description of how the transmission changes from agitate to spin mode.

The key (and likely problem) is the "agitator spring".

The spring holds the agitate gear down so that the two sets of splines on the agitate gear are connected and the agitate rack can turn the agitators.

See the following Whirlpool parts list for a blow-up of the transmission and how the various gears and springs connect.

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%20W10114743.pdf

See the following for how to remove the transmission and clutch.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=137

Tearing apart the transmission is a bit messy but if the problem is the spring or agitate cams, it's a lot less expensive to fix than a $170 transmission.

Remove the clutch (the spring holding the clutch to the spin pinion is a bear to replace.

Remove the 8 transmission screws carefully, the transmission is full (15 oz.) of 80-90 weight gear oil.

Remove the transmission cover and drain the oil.

Pull off the spin pinion.

Carefully remove the clip that holds the main Spin Gear on and remove it.

Push down on the agitate spring and remove the spring clip. Note where is attaches to the main shaft.

Check the spring, Agitate Cams and the cams in the Neutral Drain Assembly.

Re-assembly is obviously the reverse of taking it apart.

Washer wont spin in the spin cycle.Washer was full of water and making a buzzing noise. If you have any suggestions what it might be that would be great. Kenmore 80 series washer about 11 years old.

sounds like the lower bearing on the trans mission shaft is seizing up on you. had a frigedair that did the same thing. i took it apart to replace, but could not buy separate. it only came with a purchase of a new transmission, which ran $175- 275. so i junked it out. washer was only 5 years old.

Kenmore washing machine 80 Series 110 20802 990 Will not agitate or spin"

You need to replace the Kenmore Washer Lid Switch. I had the same problem so being lazy I would just push down on the washer's lid and it would push the lid switch further down. making the water drain. after a while I just replaced the lid switch.

My 80 series 110-23812-100 type 3. wont spin the tub during rinsing and i already replaced the plastic coupler

It's more than likely the clutch. Since you already replaced the motor coupling, it can only be the trans or the clutch and my guess is the clutch since the clutch and motor coupling are the weak links in the system.

Kenmore 80 series won't spin

If it agitates and drains. leaving your clothes clean but soaking wet. It is most likely the transmission/gearbox. the motor is working otherwise it would not agitate. it is stuck in agitate mode and cannot "shift" into spin mode. new transmission will cost 140-170 and takes 2 or so hours to replace depending on skill level. total repair cost parts+labor $300ish you may want to ante up for a new machine at this point. if you cant to the labor yourself.
part# should be this: tho double check using your own model#
Part # AP3096209
