Question about PC Desktops

Keep getting I really need some help here. About a month ago I noticed problems with software when trying to run for installation or play. It was a no go.Strange. I carefully checked the software for any signs of wear and tear, including minute scratches, but all was well. Then I looked up Berlac and found that my security system status was running at 3.75 out of 10. Yikes! It didn't used to be this way....hmmm... I have also noticed that in the last few days my mail is v-e-r-y slow. And I do mean SLOW. So, thinking I needed to fight this unseen predator with real fire, I bought the new version of Kapersky! I tried to install this morning, and "Please insert a disk into Drive d" popped right up. Again. I can get no further. I have plenty of free memory, I have 2000 Prof OS, 1.67 gig AMD Athlon XP, 128 kilo primary memory cache, 256 kilo secondary, 80.02 gigs usable hard drive, 65.76 gigs free space, but for how long...what is lurking and how do I fight it??? Do I need Sam or Dean? HELP m-e.... I am not a techie, just a grandmother, but a coool one. You will have to spell any instructions out to me as if you are explaining to a first grader - or close to that, anyway. Sorry and thanks! Blessings!!! Live long and prosper!

What normally causes this problem is messy clutter. First run "msconfig". Goto to the startup tab and check the button "disable all". Reboot, the system will start only what it needs. U can go back in to have the items start that U really want later. Do not go online at this time. Use Defrag and defrag all U'r drives. This may have to be done a coupla' times to remove as much red as possible. Prior to defraging, U should go through the Add/Remove (control panel) and get rid of any programs U don't want anymore.
This will cleanup U'r system and restore U'r speed.
There are many programs and games that will not or not run well on the 2000 os. It was not designed for game playing, it will but not well. Upgrade U'r os to the XP, it's a big improvement.
There is also a program call Jkdefrag that does an exellent job of defraging and managing the hd.
Recommend that U clean and defrag U'r system at least once a month. The more install the more U should use "Msconfig" and defrag.

Upgrades are usually troublesome as they leave bits of the old OS in odd places. It is best to do a clean install.
Choose your OS, either Vista or Win7. XP will not work!
Always download the latest drivers for the OS you are using from hp.com or it will keep hanging and be unreliable.
Hope this helps.

I brought my hp about 2 years ago it worked for about a month now im trying to fix it but when it comes on it goes to the screen where it asksstart windows normally how do i reboot

You can choose to start windows normally and it should bring you to regular desktop. If not to reboot you actually have to shut it off by holding down power button until it shuts off. If still issue try to boot in to safe mode by pressing F8key on boot up and keep on pressing it till advanced start up comes up. Once in safe mode try to run virus scan to see is there any viruses. Also in same menu there is safe mode with networking if you choose this one you can do updates since it will allow you to go online even that you are in safe mode. This might resolve the issue.Hope this helps.

System keeps shutting off. Power will show available, and then not available. Resoldered the power jack on the motherboard. Problem went away, and then came back.

I ran into a problem just like this a few months ago. Try installing the latest BIOS drivers from HP's website. For some reason, that fixed it for me. Also, from the BIOS or HP battery optimizer software, try running some tests on the battery to see if there is a problem with it.

Hope that helps....
