Question about Compaq Presario 5000 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My computer runs extremely SLOW and always has. Is there a way to wipe it clean to the factory defaults and start over? It was previously used in a tax office, so it went fast for them. The number on the front is SR1303WM.

You didn't say which version of Windows you have or how old your computer is. (1)If you have Windows XP or Vista, when you first got your computer you should have made a Restore Disk backup, and have done this periodically. You can go to the first Restore backup and do a System Restore, which will take you to an previous setting or you can do a clean install by saving your data, and reinstalling your Operating System. ( 2)The only other option you have is to add memory to your system, if it can take it. If you have the minimum amount of memory, the system will have to divide a;; it's memory into 2 or more tasks, thus slowing it down; adding more memory will speed it up. How much more you can add to your system should be explained in your manual or go to the manufacturer's website and find your answer there.

Reset acer 4810t

You can start the Recovery from outside windows by holding down the ALT key and tapping F10 repeatedly
on startup. When the recovery loads you will be prompted for a password.

This should have been set by the customer if they have been into the Acer Recovery Management software previously.

If they have forgotten the password or you wish to clear the password you need to boot off the recovery disk that should have been created.

More Information

From the Acer toolbar at the top of the desktop click on the disk icon

Setup a password if requested.

After clicking on setup you need to click Create Password to continue.

Create a password and add a password hint (strongly recommended).
You now have the option of restoring from a previous Windows Vista backup or you can start the Acer recovery process.

The recovery is started by clicking Restore at the bottom of the window.

Further types of recovery are now presented.

Choose Restore system to factory default if you wish to run the hard drive based recovery and return your Acer computer back to it's original factory default state.

Note: The factory default recovery will wipe ALL data from the computer so ensure important data has been saved to disk before proceeding.

Enter the password that was previously set.

Confirm you wish to run the recovery process.

After confirming you wish to run the recovery process the computer will restart and restore all the original files
Complete the Out of Box Experience when prompted

After a couple of restarts the computer will run through restoring the preinstalled software that came with your computer and then be ready to use

hope this helps

System is running extremely slow, when I tried to do a factory restore I get an error code 0xf00000005. I ran hardware diagnostics on the hard drive memory cpu and mobo, tests run extremely slow. I tried...

After using Darik's boot and nuke (DBAN) your hard drive will be wiped clean with little chance of recovery. This also depends on how many passes you used for the disk wipe. More passes = less chance of recovery.

Restore from backup
You can restore backups previously created (as stated in the Create backup
section) from hard disk, CD or DVD.
1 Boot to Windows XP.
2 Press <Alt> + <F10> to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery actions and
click Next.
5 Select the desired restore action and follow the onscreen instructions to
complete the restore process.

Extremely slow!!!! Sometimes takes up to 30s to 1 min to open files.

Disable your startup programs by going into msconfig and clicking on the startup tab to make sure background programs arent running. Type in msconfig in the search box or the run option depending on the operating system your running.

Once you do that let the laptop restart and see if you the operating system runs better.

If it doesn't then the operating system is corrupt and you'll have to wipe out the drive and start from scratch and restore the laptop back to factory defaults.

If that doesn't work then the hard drive is bad. I ran into that the other day, the OS takes forever to load. I tried to format the drive and it couldn't so I had to replace the hard drive and everything is good.

I cant get factory settings on my computer My hard drive wont work properly Ihavent got any memory.Computer very slow Please explain in laymans terms Obliged

1. Factory settings on computer.
There really isn't "factory settings" to reset. Well it isn't simple as that. There is the BIOS which can be reset to "default settings" for the BIOS. Also most brand name computers come with a recovery feature, in which you can recovery/restore the computer back to original factory defaults with original software all installed. Therefore the computer's operating system (usually windows) will be running with the programs like it would run if you were to buy the same new laptop.

2. Hard drive won't work properly.
You can give the hard drive a test using the hard drive's company's hard drive testing software which can be download from their site. The software would test the hard drive to make sure nothing physical is wrong and the hard drive is functioning like normal.

3. Haven't got any memory. Computer very slow.
You can always buy more memory. If windows says it's running out of memory. That means there is too many software running in the background.

Comment if you want more explained.
