How to connect front panel to acer power s290 motherboard

http://www.ascendtech.us/acer-aspire-sa90-mbs7109002-motherboard_i_mbacembs7109002.aspx

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

Looking at the Front Panel header it is parallel to the outside edge on the bottom/right of the motherboard.

13 pin header.
6 across the Top row with 1 pin missing, 7 across the Bottom row.

Top row is numbered EVEN
Starting on LEFT side coming across to the Right, Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, No Pin, 12, and 14.

Pins 2 and 4 have a Green area
Pins 6 and 8 have a Red area
No Pin 10.
Pins 12, and 14 have a Yellow area

Bottom row is numbered ODD.
Starting on LEFT side coming across to the Right, Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

Pins 2 and 4 have a Green area
Pins 6 and 8 have a Red area
No Pin 10.
Pins 12 and 14 have a Green area.

A) Pins 2 and 4 in the Green area (Top left) are for the Power On LED
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the Power On LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 6 and 8 in the Red area are for the Power On switch.

C) Pins 12 and 14 are N/C. Not Connected

D) Pins 1 and 3 in the Yellow area, are for the HarDDrive activity LED light.
Pin 1 is for the Positive wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 5 and 7 in the Purple area, are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

F) Pins 9, 11, and 13 are N/C.
(Pin 9 is 5 Volts DC. Used by the factory for testing)

Regards,
joecoolvette

(I thought the internal speaker was that round little 'buzzer', below the bottom white PCI slot, (PCI 2), and close to the edge of the motherboard )

Dont seem to have enough front panel pins for all my case wires

Hi Greeneyedbj,

What kind of I/O connectors are you looking for *********** board sir?

pcsyke_138.jpg

The image above has the following for your I/O connectors.
1. Three usb headers up to 6 additional devices, most casing can support 2-4 pins. 2. Front Audio Connector. 3. Front Panel Connector. Power Sw, Reset Sw, Powed Led, HDD Led

Branded casing has the following I/O connectors.
1. Esata 2. Firewire (Dont use the USB headers, firewire use a different pin-layout) 3. Chassis Intrusion Alarm Header.

Hopefully this information helps.
You can ask for more help.

Hi ,, i have just fitted a intel d845gvsrb in my pc but i am not sure where the tower speaker wire , reset sw , power sw , power led , h h d led and the black single one go`s can you please help me ..

The Picture below shows you the locations of the places to put those wires are in relation to your motherboard. In yellow is the power switch and such. and the audio connection is in red.
avatar23454_9.jpg

The Pin layout for the power and other connector are as follows:
avatar23454_10.jpg

the layout for the audio header is as follows: avatar23454_8.jpg

To install the cable that connects a front panel audio solution to the front panel audio header, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord.
  2. Locate the front panel audio header (J8A1).
  3. Remove the three jumpers from the header (this disables the back panel audio connectors).
  4. Install a correctly keyed and shielded front panel audio cable.
  5. Connect the audio cable to the front panel audio solution.

To restore back panel operations follow these steps:
1. Remove the front panel audio cable. 2. Install a jumper on pins 5-6 (rear R channel). 3. Install a jumper on pins 9-10 (rear L channel). 4. Install a jumper on pins 1-2 (mic). 5. Replace the cover.

Connecting front panel wiring to INTEL 845GRG Motherboard

Hello davideiker1, the Intel D845GRG MB manual is shared with another Intel board. (D845GBV MB). Go to this Intel site & download the D845GRG manual; http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-008873.htm You'll need Adobe reader to view the manual. Download Adobe from this link; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
See page 9 for motherboard layout.
The front panel connectors are shown on page 68, see item C.
On page 69 is, Table 31 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header. Front Panel Header (J9G1).
Pin 1 is power for the hard disk drive led, pin-3 is negative for the hard disk drive. Wire colors coming from the case are important. Look at all of the front case wires. The common color for each 2-pin connector will be ground. In most cases the ground wire is white, except for the internal speaker. Ground for the speaker is normally black. (This motherboards speaker is built into the MB, no hook up is needed).
Pin number 2 is positive for the case power led which lights up as green. Pin 4 is negative for the power led.
The reset switch is a bit different. Pin 5 is negative & pin 9 is positive, however if your case uses a two pin connector than connect pin 7 as ground & pin 9 for positive. The On/Off switch, pin 6 is positive & pin 8 is negative.
If this manual is not what you see on the MB, please advise.

Good luck davideiker1!

Front panel pin layout. I need the front panel pin layout especially for the HD IDE active LED.

Howzit
Trial n Error is your best bet on the control pins panel there are two rows, with the power plugged in,with a screwdriver touch adjacent two pins together at a time starting with the top row then the bottom row, when you touch the right two pins your motherboard will power-up, then place the power-switch plug onto those two pins (the writing on the plug facing innwards toward the mainboard) the two pins for the reset switch and 99.9% of the time located directly next to the power switch or directly above the the power pins on the other row. For the LED lights you will have to just try the different pins and the Power LED will remain on as long as your mboard is on, but to find the LED pins for the Harddrive you will have to plug in your HDD and then when it powers up try the pins and the led for the HDD will flicker on-off, that would be the correct one. Dont worry your mboard will not be damaged by this in any way. Goodluck and let me know how you go. Thanks
