At night and at concerts, the light level is low. If your camera is on auto, it will try to fire the flash. It's only effective for about 8 feet. Anything farther away than that will be dark. In these instances, it's best to turn off the flash, set the ISO to a higher setting, and set the white balance for tungsten lighting. You'll need to hold the camera steady but you should get better shots.
