Hi you have got the dreaded red ring of death, this is very common with all xboxes and their are people out their that will fix them for you for a fee.

their is nothing you can do yourself to solve this problem as its a case of taking the xbox apart and removing the heat sinks and the x clamps and fitting new parts and new heat sink paste, this is a big job and requires special tools. so its not for the novice to do.

i do the repairs to these on a regular basis and 8 out of 10 i fix work again but others tend to be to far gone.

any way the reason you are getting this warning light is due to it over heating, check the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox as it is covered by warranty for 3 years for this exact fault so if its less than 3 years old go to the xbox website and get them to replace it for you, if its outside this time then you have 2 options you could either repair it or sell it.

you can buy repair kits and get the instructions off the net but without having done it before it can by really hard to do and you could do more harm than good.

when they built these they used cheap parts and cheap heat sink paste now over time this causes it to over heat and then you get the dreaded red ring of death and this shows you the either the gpu or cpu chip has over heated.

now the repair involves taking the xbox apart which is not easy but can be done you need to then remove the x clamps and then remove both heat sinks. once their removed you need to clean them up and remove all the old heat sink paste and use new paste, you also need to get xbox rrod repair kit as you wont be using the cheap x clamp bits anymore these will go in the bin as this is what caused the problem in the first place.

let me know what you would like to do or if you need further assistance ok

i also be damaged xbox's but im based in UK
if you are going to do this yourself then make sure you have no warranty left as this fault is covered for 3 years by microsoft so if the date on the sticker on the back of the xbox is within this time all you need to do is go to the microsoft webiste and tell them and they will give you a replacement.

i charge 25pound to do the repair so you should be looking around this price if you are paying someone also their is no guarantee the repair will work as the damage caused by the over heating could have destroyed the cpu or gpu chip but you wont know this till after the repair work has been done.

if you are doing the work yourself then you need to get a erpair guide off the net so just google rrod repair guide and this will list loads of sties with these guides, you will also need to buy an xbox 360 rrod repair kit, you can get these off ebay for next to nothing, then you need to get some heat sink paste and some special torque screwdrivers to remove the xbox case.

this is not an easy job to do and getting it wrong can do a lot more harm than good if you put to much pressure on the heat sinks when you put them back on this will destroy the gpu and cpu chip so be warned.
make sure you get a guide and correct tools or if you are unsure get someone to do it who knows what their doing.

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

If you have this problem you can fix it by stopping the amount of heat that the system is taking and the best way to do this is send it in or you can use a good repair guide to fix it.

No pauldonp thats not how you do it
first you will need a work area screw driver any kind will work a shank a 45magnum
and a hammer first use the hammer to open the xbox be careful when duing this because you need the chip thats under the heat sink
now once youve done that use the screw driver and cut out the chip under the heat sink then use the shank to put three holes in the dvd drive now that you got the chip i told you about now its time for the 45magnum shoot at the xbox yelling F-CK YOU BILL GATES and there you have it now try to put the xbox back together yea good luck with that now your xbox should work if it burst into flames afterwords my bad

Interesting repair procedure. I'll consider this a last resort I also found a drop
from a tall building , seems to cause the console to self disassemble and it's
actually quite satisfying ( therapeutic ) to see this happen. all kidding aside
with the right hardware ie Google" Conformal Compression Assembly"
and a solid reflow the console will become quite durable and dependable.
Just avoid screwing down the G.P.U. and The C.P.U. with a repair kit this will distort
the P.C. board and produce scrap. Trust me I have seen many 360's destroyed

    by this procedure.

Turn console of, hold sync button down wich is the small white button next memory card slots, while holding turn on console and wait till it boots. If this does not work go to system blade, select memory, press y on the HD symbol, press xx left bumper right bumper xx, select yes. This will restart your console from scratch though all profiles and saved data will be lost, but it will clear any corupt data.

SOURCE: The xbox 360 red light flash

turn it on and wrap it with 2 towels for 20 minutes(the idea is to overheat it), then unrap the towels and let it cool down for 20 minutes. Then, walla it works.

You have a problem with your hardware. This happens to about 30% of xbox's over time. It is called the red ring of death. You need to reflow the solder under the GPU chip to fix it, find an xbox repair place on ebay.com

Xbox 360-Red to Green

Look on the back of your tv and make sure that the red and blue cables are plugged into the right slot on the back of your tv. This would be the most common cause for something like this that you are describing.
