Sounds like your connection however, there are some things you can do to speed this up. 1) Scan for Virus and Malware or adware and remove these. 2) Clear out your cookies and Temp Internet files Directories. Every time you go online cookies which has installed on your machine try to make contact with the site that put them there and report the information on sites you have visited. 3) Make sure you have automatic updates set to search when it sense inactive time instead of trying to update while you are using the computer. Anti-Virus programs are teh biggest violators of this. Windows will typically notify you that updates are available and the best method is to set Windows to notify you and let you choose when to install updates. Using auto Update in it's full Auto mode will slow you down a lot since windows is forever posting updates and a lot of times you don't really need the updates unless they address a security weakness which I suspect, as with all Windows OS for the first 5 to 7 years, are constantly being found. I don't even consider using a Windows version unless it has been on the market 5 years at a minimum or the first major Service pack has been released. Windows is nice and they offer a pretty good OS over all but they tend to release them without fully testing for known security bugs.

The printer takes a long time to print.

Buy a faster printer.

And, no, I'm not being a smart-aleck

HP rates this printer at up to 32 pages per minute -- in fast draft mode black ink only... But even their ratings show it takes over a minute per page when doing quality printing in color.

And those speed ratings are all "after first page" -- ALL printers take longer for the first page due to the time it takes for the computer to set up the page and process the information.

As the specs suggest, you can get faster printing in black-only instead of color and by choosing fast draft mode instead of quality or normal mode.

There is very little that could be wrong with the printer that would make it print slower than usual -- generally any problem would make it not print at all or cause it to print incorrectly. Generally speaking whatever speed you see is simply the speed of the printer itself based on the settings you have selected, the software you are using, and the speed of your computer.

You can refer to the information on the HP website. It is just possible that replacing the printer driver MIGHT help but other than that there simply isn't much you can do about the speed of this (or any) printer unless you want to choose a lower quality print setting.

HP 8600 makes clicking noise takes long time to start printing

Solved!

Found a misfed page jammed inside the printer on far
right side ( by the ink service station) - after removing the
"hidden" wad, the printer no longer makes "clicking" sounds
and prints right away!

My laptop is sort of running slower and I wondered if it was because my space is almost full on my laptop? And I also wanted to know if I can do anything to make it go back to normal. One other thing is...

First of all, simply delete your browsing history and cookies. Websites will sometimes download cookies or copies of their pages to your hard drive for faster loading later. The unfortunate thing is that this can slow down your pc. Using your browser, delete your browsing history, cookies, and all offline content.

If your computer takes a long time to boot up, take note of how many programs you have loading on start up. Pay attention to the bottom right of your screen and watch the icons. Having a large amount of programs loading on start up will make your boot times considerably slower. Open these programs and tell them not to start on start-up, or simply delete them if you don't use them.

Sometimes spyware or other malware will be downloaded to your computer and can adversly affect performance. I suggest downloading a spyware deleting program like Lavasoft's AdAware. It is free and reliable. When you use it, make sure that you update the definitions each time to make sure you search for the newest spyware. Try running the tests at least once a week.

Printer stopped printing fast

I don't think that the Technician did anything as these machines print at a set speed programmed into the system firmware best way to check is print out a demo page or a configuration sheet and I believe that this machine is unto 35 pages a minute in black and white. Send a one page print job to it at a copy rate of 35 and time it, it should only take 1 minute from when the first page exits the machine. If it is longer by more than 10 seconds check that the driver is not set for color mode as then the machine is using all four colors to make black making it seem slower as longer process.

Hope this helps
Thanks J

My pictures transfer to the computer too slowly.

If you are transferring Tiff files or video clips, you can expect the transfer to take much longer than it does for JPEG files, due to large file sizes. If your system has less than 32MB RAM, the transfer speed may be slower.
