Oh, it will be because all your files are stored in your hard drive. If you still have the old hard drive and you cannot boot to it to access it, there are third party technicians who specializes in retrieving files. One famous company is the drive savers. Check this link to give you detailed information.

My file settings for saving books in Calibre changed when I purchased a new computer. Can you restore to the original settings?

the area that has everything as you had it is the hard drive of the computer
new computer , new hard drive , nothing saved unless you saved it all to an external hard drive
It is very possible that if the hard drive in the old computer was still operational you could remove it and set it up as an external hard drive to recover all of the files and folders but if it was the reason for the failure , then it is all lost

Windows xp operating system

Remove the hard drive from the laptop and connect it to the USB hard drive adapter then connect it to a working computer's USB port. This computer will see the USB hard drive adapter and hard drive as an external storage device, you can then open the folders and files on the hard drive and copy the data files to the computer and to backup your files.

I lost some files from my JVC Hard Drive Video Camera. Is there a way to restore them?

Yes, you can try some data recovery softwares such as Pandora Recovery, if the hard drive uses some other file systems, you can look for them, but they might not always be free.

I have a lot of photos on the external Freecom hard drive. I've changed laptops, and have lost the CD, and anyway, can't remember the password! help!

This should not be to hard to recover.

Unless reformatted it is likely that only file indexing problem is the issue.

External hard drives are for copies.
Never allow a to ever be your only copy.

Just choose a drive,
Your Hard drive.
Then click the Scan button.

Hope this Tip helps you.

I lost the information on my drive and I need it back, how do I do it back?

There is software that can recover deleted files from a drive if that part of the drive hasn't been overwritten since you deleted the files. If you lost them due to a bad hard drive then the solution is much more expensive. There are companies that can repair broken hard drives and retrieve your data but they range in cost from $300.00 to 1700.00 depending on the damage to the drive. You can go to places like and in their support site there are a list of recommended companies that do data recovery.
