Question about Maytag MTB2156GES Top Freezer Refrigerator
Check the freezer temperature. If it is much above 10 degrees then the ice maker will lock out. That is by design.
If it is too warm freezer temperature, check to see if you can hear the fan running in the freezer compartment. If it checks O.K. the go to the bottom rear of the machine and see if the condenser cooling fan is running. Both have a tendency to freeze up after extended off periods. Sometimes, just flicking the blade will get them going. If not, the faulty one must be replaced.
If everything is running and has been for 24 hours or more, then yes, a lose of refrigerant is possible, and you will need the services of a trained service tech.
I would ignore the ice maker problem, until the freezer temperature issue is resolved, since if the machine is over 5 years of age, the factory warranty has expired leaving you with a pricey problem.
