Harley Davidson 883 2004

My 2004 Harley Sportster 883 has been sitting for a year, replaced battery, but it won't even turn over

Sounds like the issue I have as well. Bike has a fully charged battery, lights, horn etc work fine. When turn ignition, just hear a click sound.

I looked at the plugs are both are sparking correctly when turn ignition. When I removed the plugs but attached the cap, the engine turns over (no ignition obviously).

Seems strange the engine will crank when the plugs are out but not when they are inserted..

Do the lights or anything even come on? Probably starter/solenoid contacts needs to be cleaned or somthing from it sitting. Could even be the starter relay. If everything else seems to work on the bike then its probably something with the starter system.

My 1998 Harley sportster won't start but the speedometer get's power

Different fuse. Check the fuse block located just behind your battery. Just pull the cover off and slide out the main fuse block, the very bottom one is blown if the starter wont turn over.

I just bought a 2000 harley davidson sportster it has been sitting for 5 years it fires right up but will not rev up it will die. How do i fix this?

You need to remove and completely disassemble the carb. It sounds like the main jet is stopped up or the slide is not operating as it should. If it's been sitting for that long, a carb overhaul is probably what it needs.

Good Luck

1972 sportster that the clutch lurches forward bad eneough that i can hardly get it in gear it is fairly new but has been sitting for about 5 years

I would check it for dry crack from sitting, These parts can still rust and oxodize and go bad, Even uif they are new

Won't start?

With just this info. Not knowing if the engine is stock or has bigger cams or high comp pistons.I would say check the starter solenoid by running jumper wire from one side to the other.then check ALL connections for corrosion and tightness
