Question about HP Photosmart 945 Digital Camera

2 Answers

CCD Problem My HP Photosmart 945 camera's CCD broke down, and I'm told that there's no way to repair it, because HP does not sell the part. What could I do?. Is it possible to install another make's CCD or any solution that might help. Please, do not refer me to HP customer support service, because it sucks! They only offer a "refurbished camera" and only God knows what that could be!. Thanks in advance. P.S.: I know the camera is old (even though to me three years is not that much), but it worked quite well, and all elements except above mentioned CCD seem to work properly. It's a shame to have to throw it away for a theoretically repairable breakdown. Thanks in advance.

There is Sony CCD in you camera. I had the same problem (HP has no solution to this problem). I bought the new Sony CCD and put it in my HP. The camera works perfect now. :-)

If your 100% sure its the ccd and you have talented enough fingers for the job, maybe buy a faulty one off ebay or similar and use one to fix the other.
I am not familiar with this particular model but most CCD's are on a releasable ribbon cable, just take care not to get the sensor dirty or loose the green IR filter when you remove it.
a good way of keeping it clean is when you get to the critical part (swapping the ccd) place the cameras in a clear plastic bag with your hands through the opening...
best of luck

When i take a photo it shows just black on the screen, but all the other icons is there?

When you view the photos on the computer are they black as well? This is most likely a ccd problem and the camera would require repair. Also upgrade/replacement to a new camera is also another option when weighing the factors.
thank you,
Lee

CCd failure

This is a good blog on CCD failure; http://www.teleplancamerarepair.com/camera-repair-blog/post/images-apear-to-be-distorted-e28093-images-do-not-apear-e28093-Might-be-the-CCD.aspx

Goes into the distorted images you describe, explains why it fails, what it looks like and how to fix it.
While the images actually look cool it's a real drag when it happens to your camera!
Other things that happen is the images do not appear, or show with a magenta hue, or green tint.

Pink screen

An online chat with an HP agent resolved my problem, at least. All I had to do was reset the camera, which is done via the following steps:
  1. Remove the memory card.
  2. Turn off the camera.
  3. Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries.
  4. Wait at least ten seconds.
  5. Reinsert the batteries and close the battery compartment door.
  6. Turn on the camera. When the camera is turned on, you will be prompted to input or verify the date and time
Don't forget to reinsert the memory card.

Camera won't work

HP technical Support is the 1st place to go - in case there is a repair/replacement solution. If the camera is over a year old - an economical repair is unlikely
