This printer has and ink flow detection system to prevent "dry-firing" of the printhead which can cause damage. You will have to replace the cartridge in order to print on this model.

I have a canon mp560 and it will only print black, yellow and blue. I have bought brand new canon ink cartridges and this has made no difference... it is only two years old?

Hi, My name is Liam from rihac, although we do not sell printers I work very closely with them via our inklink products. If you have performed a head clean and a test page and nothing is coming out still you may have a blocked cartridge. How long ago did you last use the printers colours?

The best thing to do is remove the cartridges from the printer and then remove the printhead from the printer. Fold a piece of paper towel and spray Blue Windex on it(this has a high ammonia content that will help break down dried ink) Sit the base of the printhead on this towel for 2 hours.

Wipe the printhead down of any ink or windex and reinsert the cartridge. Perform 1-2 headcleans and it should now be working.

If you find that it has not improved you can try and sit the printhead on the paper towel longer.

My printer is not printing black ink, although both black cartridge ink levels are are 3/4 full. I have reset to factory settings and cleaned the print heads.

Leave the print head ( not the whole cartridge!) soaking overnight in a little puddle of solvent e.g. print head cleaner or alcohol. This is much more effective than the printer clean program or a quick rub with a cotton bud.

Follow these steps;
- Open the document you want to print - Go to 'file' - 'Print' - click 'properties' in the print window - in the menu select 'Maintenance' - in the 'Maintenance' click 'Ink Cartridge Settings' - select 'Black Only' - click 'OK' - again click 'OK' - now you can print only using the black ink in the printer.
Hope this helps, Please rate if this solution was helpful. thanks!

I have set the Canon MP560 printer to print grayscale (black and white) but it still uses the color cartidges, apparently to periodically clean the nozzles so they will be able to print when needed. So I...

Canon has made there printer this way to SAVE on your black in and also to lubricate the print heads and other technical reasons.

To be honest I do not think its in your best interest to override the settings on this print due to the cause of damage to the print head and other sorts of failure.

There are chip re setters and other forms of ways to trick the system, These Void the warranty and thus Canon does not allow for this type of compromise to save ink. the best thing you can do here is purchase a ink kit with a chip that uses a contentious flo system to save you on ink purchases and money.

Here is a link to a example

Good luck with your printer I hope this is a solution that best suites your needs to save money.
