Have a gateway 3520, won't power up

posted by truthfulim on May 25, 2008

I charge the battery or not but will not power up.

Comment by truthfulim, posted on Jun 17, 2008

the battery holds a charge, the power light comes on and so does the drive light, can hear the CD spin up. No display, no sound. I have tested the harddrive it is fine. the heat sync fan will not stay on. I do not have a voltmeter to check power to the board. I am selling it on ebay for parts since I can not find the heat sync except on a waiting list. I think it is least case the heat sync, worst case the board. Thank you.

I do tech support, I am not half bad at (repaired more than a few) desktop computers but have only a little bit of laptop skils.

you could have a bad power port...how do you know that the batt is charged?

if its not the power port then it could be a bad switch...or main board

what happens when you press the power button?

can you hear your cd drive fan or anything start up?

how advanced are you?

Check your battery charger, check your batt, check the out put of your charger to know and to ensure that your charger is working.if its working good, your batt is already busted or a board problem.
