Question about Yamaha P-1600 Amplifier

1 Answer

I have a Yamaha AX-900 Integrated Amp that I puchased back in the late 80's. It still works great, with one exception. The left channel is not as loud as the right channel and I have to put the balance almost all the way to the left to balance the sound. However, if I press the "CD Direct" button, the sound is equal from both sides when the balance in centered. Any ideas what would cause this, or if this is worth fixing?

Hi...
The tone control circuit has "issues". Could be a bad interconnect or a failed pre-amp chip.
If you dont mind putting about $100 into it, get it looked at

The sound of the LEFT MAIN Cannel disappears on my YAMAHA DSP AX-1

The fact that sound appears at max volume means that it is getting past and through the pre-amp stage. So it would appear to be in the main power amp stage the problem. It would depend what drives the channel, but if it's transistor driven I would suspect one of them.

Left channel is dead, but with max volume both channels are ok. Is this a known problem?

If you're saying the channel awaakens when you crank it, there is the slighest chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

If it still doesn't work you might want to prove if its a low-level signal loss or a high level amp failure. One way would be to run an RCA cable pair from the Tape Out to any other device (even a TV with speakers) you might have that accepts an audio input. If IT can't detect receive the DEAD Channel you

Yamaha AX-596 Integrated Amplifier only works when using either of the two "Pure Direct" buttons. The Bass, Treble, & Balance controls do not function. It would appear that circuit board or the circuit...

Chances are that the tone control pre-amp circuit is faulty. These days the functions are all done by a single IC. Find that and you will more than likely have found the culprit. If there are any of the controls for bass etc on the front pannel, trace the wiring back from them. If not have a look around on the PC board in area that you suspect (some boards are marked as 'tone' etc). If you see any IC's put the number into google and you might find out what each does. Keep doing it till you find one that deals with tone etc.

Hello i was wanting to know if i could hook up my AX-596 amplifier to my Yamaha HTR-5860 reciver

I assume you want to slave it to the receiver and drive some more speakers with it.

Connect some RCA cables from whichever channel pre-outs you want on the HTR-5860 to any input on the AX-596.

Set the AX volume to something sufficiently high, run through the HTR's speaker level setup and match the AX volume to match the channels on the receiver. Then leave the AX's volume alone.
---

If you just want the AX to have access to program sources of the HTR, run the RCA cables to it from one of the VCR1 or 2 Out (but DO NOT select whichever one you use via the front panel). These are not affected by the HTR's volume controls.

Convert passive speaker to active

You don't say anything about your passive speaker, only thing that I understand you have a Yamaha AX-396 witch have an Power output of 60 watts per channel into 8 ohms (stereo)! That means working great with your passive speaker!!!

It sounds like you want to use the external amp rather than the internal one. If that is the case, just connect the output of the EQ to the input of the external amp. All you are doing is inserting the EQ between the amp stages now. Using the mx-1 rather than the internal amp is no different.
