Very bad idea, the minerals will eventually ruin the innards. Just distilled water.

Are you using distilled water? May be clogged with chemical residue that shows up by the residential water treatment process if using tap water from your faucet. When tap water evaporates (i.e. steam) it will leave deposits. Try mixing a solution of a small amount white vinegar with water to see if it breaks up. Heat until hot and then turn off. Be sure to 'flush' by pouring out and refilling with fresh distilled water after heating it up and letting it sit a little bit first. If successful only used filtered water from now on.

Our iron keeps shutting off and on. It then spurts out brown liquid from the iron. It is on my wall and it stains our clothes

the brown liquid is rust from leaving the water in the iron. Always dump the water out when you are done ironing. You need to run a descaler through it. you can purchase descaler online. The shutting off and on could be a loose wire.

Leaks water out all the time. Clothes wet or rust marked.

OMG, how frustrating to be ironing and water shoot out everywhere from this iron....So, to remedy it, I have turned off the steam, use it as a dry iron, and have a spray bottle handy to spray as I iron...love the feel of this iron, but hate the water everywhere...

My shark Iron spits water. Why

water is coming out of where?
if it coming out of the filler, then you have too much water in the iron, if not then the iron is defective, it should only create steam not water droplets.

Shark Iron

The brown residue is probably caused by iron in the water. I would suggest you put a solution of half vinegar and half water into the water chamber and leave in the iron overnight.

Then switch it on to steam and holding the iron over the sink or over an old towel, the dirt (residue) comes out of the holes on the soleplate. Sometimes if the iron is badly scaled you might need to repeat the descaling.

Once complete fill with water and steam away, to flush any of the remaining vinegar out of the iron.

Depending on how often you use your iron and how much iron is in your water, you might consider performing this flush process every 2 or 3 months. It will help extend the life of your iron.

Good Luck
