Freezer quite working after an electrical surge in area...

I have a sister who purchased an 05/2007 Holiday chest freezer, Model #LCH0501PW as of last year. (She resides in Alaska, and has minimal access to qualified help) She purchased this at a local home improvement outlet. There was a minor power surge in her area and her freezer went on the fritz. Could this be a burned motor, or is there the possibility that the unit may have a built-in circuit breaker to prevent this? Seems next to impossible to find a shcematic as this is a very inexpensive model.

    tech17,

I will be in touch with her via phone, today, and send along the advise you have been so helpful in suppling...hopefully, this may be a possible solution short of having to trash the unit. Can this existing relay possibly be tested with a relatively inexpensive volt-meter?

    Thank you, again!

    Minom,

Thank you for the advise...I am kind of in the same scenario as yourself, only this is for a little sister that I can"t help directly, as I am in Colorado and she's in Alaska...can only help via advise from my end, though would like to be able to help so much more. Hope that you were able to locate the necessary replacement parts. I encountered the same situation on my end, trying to find parts for the darned thing---wish you better luck, on your search for the parts!!

I have this same model. It quit working 18 months after purchase during a house move. It would get cold and then quit with the power light on. I'm replacing the thermostat and the start relay/load protetion parts. That seems to be the problem. $50 total. Finding parts has been nearly impossible as no one recognizes the model # or brand.

From "Sears Parts Direct" on your computer.
When you search this name, it will ask you for your model number. Type that in, and you will see the freezer.
God bless your efforts.

I have a kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702. I had it unpluged for 5 months. When I plugede it back in the power light flickers. Tryed other outlet. Other then that it seems to be working

We purchased this same Kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702 in 2010. In less than 2 years the compressor quit. If you do a search on this model you will see dozens of complaints. Don't waste your time or money on this freezer.

There is frost around the top of my Holiday manual defrost chest freezer freezer - does the seal need to be reparced

if the frost is just around the top seal area then YES.but if the frost goes further down then the whole unit needs a full defrost (NO scrapers/hot water/steam/or any other "help")use car de icer...and dry thoroughly.also, if too full, it will frost up around the top.

When plugged, kenmore freezer shorts the surge protector and outl

if thats the case should be an apparent wire off, somethings shorting directly to ground. the chest freezer has all of its wiring behind the access panel on the side of unit , no other wires in machine id look right there for something obvious
