Question about LG BD390 Blu-Ray Player

1 Answer

I have the LG BD390. I have had this blue ray for sometime and never had a problem with playing blue ray movies. I just bought the new Iron Man II blue ray movie. The movie stops playing at the same scenes. In other words the movie freezes at the same spots thru out the whole movie. But if I fast forward, and go back to just before it freezes its fine. I also have a router hooked up to my blue ray & tv. There was one update for the blue ray player and I did do the update and I thought that would fix it,but not. Please advise me, Thanks, Eileen

I had the exact same problem with my BD390 and another LG home theater system, both with the current firmware updates. I noticed others have posted this issue on various sites as well. I called LG and the guy I spoke with seems to have been coached pretty well on the scenes where this problem is occuring since he could sight the exact scenes that were giving me the problem. He claimed the blu ray probably isn't exactly 1080i or 1080p and that the player is probably having problems processing the resolution so I should lower it to 720p. This didn't fix the problem and didn't help explain why my blu ray player which plays plenty of other high resolution movies only has a problem with this movie. I think a firmware update is needed to fix the issue but I'm not holding my breath that LG will be proactive in getting that out soon.

Testimonial: "I think your right about the LG person. And maybe they will do a firmware update. So far this is the only movie. DVD of Iron Man II was fine. "

    I had the same problem with Iron Man 2 and Prince of Persia, both discs from a Blu-ray DVD Digital Copy Set. Out of curiosity, bought Prince of Persia single BD and the BD390 played it fine. I have 4 BDs that won't even load, getting "Check disc!" errors. I just popped in How to Train Your Dragon and am having audio problems
    My Plextor external BD player hooked up to my laptop and my nephew's PS3 plays all these problem discs just fine.
    Solution: buy another BD player that's not an LG!
    btw... got the same runaround from LG support.

If you have one movie that it wont play, check to make sure the software/firmware is up to date. There are sometimes updates that fix issues like that.

Bought a film (twice) as I thought the first one was defective, yet it still won't play on the blu ray machine. Can you help? All other films have been fine

If your machine plays all other blue ray discs fine, then we can rule out the machine. But if all your other discs are standard DVD movies, "meaning they not blue ray" then there is a problem with the machine. The blue ray movies require higher precision in play to show better resolution, I have encountered this many times in service. So if your machine is not the problem, the replacement disc has to be questioned.

Will not play blu-ray movie Date Night. I have tried 3 movies

Will it play other movies? If so, your "Date Night" disc is almost certianly defective. Try it somewhere else

If not, the player has a problem. Try cleaning the laser with a laser lens cleaner (something like this: http://www.buy.com/prod/memorex-cd-dvd-laser-lens-cleaner-6-brush-drive-cleaner-memorex-cd-dvd/q/sellerid/11408470/loc/101/10340589.html) Blu-Ray is more sensitive to dust because of the thinner laser it uses. If that doesn't work, more likely than not the laser has died or requires adjustment.

[Just for the record, I had an early DVD player (I forgot the brand name) that would play every movie fine except "Stuart Little". This movie worked fine on other players, but not in mine. It would enter the menu>special features all by itself. Let us hope you are not experiencing a similar case.]

Will not play green zone blu ray movie just keeps looping on the menu screen but will not give me any options

I had this same problem with my LG BD390 player. I discovered (through an internet search) that the problem is caused by some kind of BD-Live feature during menu-loading. By switching off the BD-Live function of the Blu-ray player (temporarily) the disc will play normally. At least with my player it did.

Hi there , I am trying to watch Planet Earth blue ray disc on lg bd 390 and for some reason any of the discs does not load (there is 6 of them).i thought it was a bad product and I asked for an exchange...

Try disabling BD-Live.
On the LG BD390 go to the Home screen then select the following:
Settings-->Network-->BD-Live Connection
You have three options: Permitted, Partially Permitted (default), and Prohibited.
Change the setting to Prohibited.
Now reload the disk and try again.
If that doesn't work try clearing the BD Storage (memory about the disks you play).
Again from the Home screen:
Settings-->Others-->BD Storage Clear
I think changing the BD-Live setting will stop the problem you're experiencing. If that works, you could also try changing the setting to Permitted.
I am experiencing issues with some of the very latest Blu-Ray disks, such as Avatar and Date Night. I don't have enough experience to be sure yet, but so far the evidence points to a new setting or standard in the disk industry that does not play well with the Partially Permitted default setting on the LG BD390 and a few other Blu-Ray players.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
