Everything on my camera seems to be working fine except that I cannot capture any images. Basically, the lens no longer views anything. The lcd screen is fine and I can play back the tapes on it. Sound works too but when I switch to capture mode it's as if the camera is "blind".
Just before this happened I noticed that when I was capturing, the image was changing odd colors or becoming fuzzy, and there seemed to be light spots that would appear. Suddenly it went blank and that was the end of it.

Symptom shows its ccd imager chi failure problem and ccd imager chip
will be replaced in your camcorder.
CCD Imager chip is an electronic part that converts an image into
electronic signal for further process in camcorder circuit boards.
Take your camcorder to local camera repair shop for ccd imager
replacement as it is not user level repair and requires qualified tech.
CANON relied on Sony to install their CCD (The image sensor) on most of their mini camera recorders. The mount for this CCD Component is defective. Canon recognizes this and currently, (2009) offers a 100% free replacement of this part.
The effect of the malfuctioning CCD is as you describe, everything works except there is no image captured.
I took mine in and they repaired it, no questions asked, except that I may want a few other things fixed up while they were there. I declined the additional work and it didn't cost me a cent.
Find Canons website and they have a deeler locator there where you can find an authorized repair center.
