Question about Diamond Multimedia SupraMax DSL642WLG Wireless Router

Open Question

I currently have a Linksys WRT54G router configured as a gateway, with a subnet of 168.2.. My original modem died, so I just purchased a Diamond Supramax DLS602EU. This comes pre configured to 168.1.1. It will connect to the DSL/internet in the default configuration, however I cannot access the unit if I change the LAN IP to 168.2.. My Linksys does not see the modem when configured to either the .1 or .2 subnet... AM I missing a setting on the Linksys?? Thanks a bunch... Dave H

Taking forever to configure computer on reinstallation of wrt54g

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

A client of mine has a Leviton 4 port Internet gateway. It's serving up DHCP to four connected computers. It's uplink is connected to a wireless Linksys router, which is, in turn, connected to a cable...

If you don't have physical access to the equipment, the shortest and easiest way to configure your leviton gateway would be to connect the linksys router to one of the numbered ports rather than the WAN/uplink port. That would bypass the DHCP server of leviton, however, you will have to do away with one of the PCs connected to leviton.

Please contact me for further clarification, if needed.

Westell modem/roter and linksys not working together I have tried almost everything ans they will not work. changed to bridged on westell pppoe onlinksys as well as ip add change tried static ip. I can...

What you need to do is this. I have the exact same setup on my network and I got mine to work perfectly. Take the router to your computer and hook it up only to the network card. Change the local IP Address to and the subnet mask tell the router to reboot. Once the router have rebooted you will need to disconnect the cable few minutes and reconnect. Make certain that support say as the gateway. If it does you have done it right. On the westell modem under the advance settings change the default gateway to and the subnet mask, if there is an error message change the last 255 to 0, it has been awhile since I had to do mine. Unpluge everything the modem and the router and plug the cat5 cable into the modem and the other end into the WAN port of the router.

If this doesn't work there is a third party firmware that you can put on and it makes it alot easier, but you have to be careful when you program it or it will brick your router. If the other configuration doesn't work the third party would be next to try.

Cannot connect to the internet or access DSL modem

Wow! You have done a great first step to your solution. Since the router bypass (direct to your modem) works, you answered my first question of the user/password.

You need to find the ISP's configuration requirements. Typically, it is just the DNS IP, Subnet mask and Gateway IP. If your ISP requires proxy, or other protocols, I have not configured for that -- so hopefully you just need the config as stated. Find the admin screens in the router and plug in these values. The from another browser session -- try to hit a public website like (my favorite).

Also, if that does not work, open a command prompt and see if you can "ping" the DNS and Gateway servers. That is not always conclusive as some servers refust to respone to PING. The ISP typically leaves that available for such troubleshooting.

if you need the manual, a good place is at:

Dear i can not input my vpi vci 0 / 35 can you help me please

If you have a WRT54G router then there is no option on the setup page where you can configure virtual circuits(VPI/VCI). What you need is a WAG54G(wireless G ADSL gateway) which is a A/DSL modem and router bulit in to one device, there you have an option to setup your virtual circuits manually. Now if your A/DSL modem functions as a gateway, just configure you the settings on the modem instead on the router then just set your Linksys router's internet connection type to Automatic Configuration DHCP and it should be up and running.

My computer keeps telling me I do not have an internet connection when I connect my router. I can unplugg the router and plug it back into my dsl modem and the internet again works. why won't my router...

More info would be helpful, but I am assuming that you have a router device that is not the DSL Modem, maybe a linksys, or something? Most likely what is happening is that the DSL modem is assigning private IP addresses, like 192.168.1.x, and the router is obtaining that IP address on its WAN interface, but is also configured for the LAN at 192.168.1.x, which is the same subnet, so it cannot route packets to the internet properly, as both interfaces have the same network range. Can you give me more info? I can try to walk you thru step by step.
Step 1. Verify current IP address when internet connection is working. (Go to a command prompt and type ipconfig, press enter, and document what your IP address is, also document the gateway address and subnet mask)
Step 2. Connect to the router instead of the DSL modem, do the same thing, document your IP address, gateway, and subnet mask
Step 3. Compare the two, your IP may be different, and the gateway may even be different, but see if both are trying to use the same IP range.

If they are the same, or close (the first 3 octets(set of numbers) are the same) then you will need to configure the lan side of either your DSL modem, or the router to be on a different IP address.

To do this will vary depending on the model of your router, so if you respond in the next few hours, I will still be online, and will try to assist.

Problem connecting router to lap top

Your Linksys router might be secured, so your going to have to open a port for it to able to connect to the laptop. I am not an Expert on routers, but maybe Linksys will be able to help you. You can do the Linksys Live Chat, or you could can look around at the Linksys support site. If this doesnt work, please do not give me a bad rating. Instead, tell me in a comment and I will try to assist you further.

Hope this helps :)

Linksys Modem

To confirm that your PC is connected to the router, open a browser and type; In most older LinkSys routers, the default username is none/blank and the default password is "admin." Most current Linksys routers,  the username and the password are  "admin."  Once inside the configuration page, click on "Status"; Verify that your Internet Connection has got some numbers such as IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS & MTU.

If none, your router cannot connect to the cable modem, if yes, pls post back the numbers/details. Further, pls add brand/model of your cable modem and your ISP.

In the meantime, you may have to check that all the cables are correctly plug in and that your cable modem & router are getting power from the mains.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back with additional information.  Good luck and kind regards.
