SOURCE: epson powerlite s4 projector is pink

I assume this is an LCD. I don't remember the s4 being a DLP projector.

This sounds like the LCD panel used for the red color has gone out. The image is made up of red, green and blue images layered upon the screen. If the red panel has gone out then there is nothing filtering out the red light in the image. This causes a nice red hue to the whole screen.

It could be a simple open and reconnect fix. I personally have never opened a projector, so I'm not going to walk you through it as I do not know how hard it would be to tinker with. It should eb a cheap fix for a true repair man though.

Copy and paste from dealer info (with some parts deleted) and Example of Ballast,

Id say the ballast is blown or its power supply (PSU), Sorry I'm not confortable giving you testing procedures for the power supply or ballast as it involves very high voltage, even present when unit is powered down, and is too much of a safety risk to be operated on outside of the workshop without proper systems in place. (ie we are all trained in procedures, and use current limiting devices on our work benches), these things can pack a punch and are not something to be playing inside of. 11_2_2011_8_34_03_am.jpg

Projector shuts off after about 45 minutes

Just a long shot, but...

I have an epson 9000i that did the same thing. Turns out that unit has a small fan (I think 60mm) right next to the power supply to keep it cool, in addition to the large fan that exhausts past the lamp. The fan runs non-stop as long as the unit is powered-up for two reasons I can think of - keep the power supply a little cooler, and the lamp a little warmer so there's not such a temp difference when it powers-up. Long story short, that fan had died. I replaced it with an aftermarket 60mm fan and it's been working fine ever since. Hope this helps.
