The easiest quickest way to do this is to make "quick sets" if you are running windows. Open up a print dialog ( try to print something ). Next to the name of the printer is preferences. Click on this. In that window is a box that says type name of quick set here. First, find the tab that has a box you can select that says either "grayscale" or "monochrome". Select this and go back to the quickset box. Type whatever you want to name this, maybe "black only". This is now your black only quickset. Save it and exit. Do the same process again, except don't select the monochrome box. Name this one "color". Now when you go to print, click preferences next to the printer name in the print dialog box, and select the proper quickset. This is an excellent procedure for color laser printers as on most models, it will greatly extend the life of your color laser cartridges because it actually disengages the drives on the color carts, reducing the life count, and extending the life of the carts. It will also prevent the printer from using color to print slightly not black items (scanned or downloaded images) without you knowing. Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Canon Pixma 3600 I want black & white printing only for documents Question: How do i turn off the colour cartridges for black & white printing only?

The Grayscale print option optimizes the look of color slides for printing on a black and white printer by adding shading. The Pure Black and White option prints your slides in monochrome.

  1. Open the presentation you want to print.
  2. Click on the word File in the Menu Bar.
  3. Select the option Print.
  4. The Print dialog will appear.
example:
sayurisan20_3.jpg 5.In the Color/Grayscale section, choose the Grayscale option to print in black, white, and shades of gray. 6.Choose the Pure Black and White option to print in black and white only. 7.Click on the OK button.

This has to do with the document printing properties. When you are ready to print a document, choose properties and make sure you go through the printer settings under that software.
The test page only verifies the cartridges. The printer properties of the software control the printer during printing.

Kodak ESP 5 runs out of ink after about 40 pages of standard text black & white documents. Also the color ink level is dropping, but no color is being used (the printer is set for black & white...

As far as the quantity of black & white - to get more out of it - go to start menu.. Click on on settings,, then printers,, Right click on the ESP 5,, click on printing preferences,, then clcik on draft,, then click on (at the top) advanced,, click on black & white.. Then click on apply then ok..
Now - every time you print it will be in this mode.. If you want to print in color - you will have to choose that each time..
For you black & white docs - this will print faster & use allot less ink..
As far as your color issue & puddling - It could be the printer head.. If it is new enough - call Kodak & maybe get a replacement.. If to old - maybe keep the color cartrige out and caped with the plastic caps until you need to print color.. Snap it in & out as needed..
I hope this helped..

The color cartridge runs out very quickly even though I rarely use it. I make sure to print in black and white, and I manually choose the option "Use Black Cartridge only" but the color cartridge runs out...

Printer manufacturers design their printers to print some color mixed in with the black when you are only printing black. That is why your color cartridge is running out when you only print black and why it prints "weird colors" when the color cartridge is empty. Printer manufacturers sell the printers at a loss and make up the profit on the cartridges.

Dell 948 printer- won't print in black and white

I had this problem. It's actually very easy to fix:

- Click Print -> Properties
- Go to "Advanced" tab
- "More options"
- Deselect "Use color cartridge for all black printing"
- Select "Use black cartridge to print black and white"
- Click "Ok"

You should be able to select the "Print in black and white" option now and stop all the frustration!
