Question about IBM 4224 Model 101 Matrix Printer

Open Question

IBM model 4224-02 printer. Cards have been cleaned, contacts cleaned and reseated. Printer displays FFF at startup and immediately powers off. Printer was working last night. Suspect power supply. Please advise.

SOURCE: IBM 4224 Shuts off after warm up

Hi,

4224 were notorious for poor connections between the control cards and the motherboard. Opening the printer and reseating all the cards solves a multitude of problems. Try it.

SOURCE: error 01

Error 01 is End of Form, Make sure u have paper installed.
The sensor that is at the bottom left that you feed paper thru is were this error is generated. Make sure it is aligned and working.

Also clean with wet paper towel slide in and out

You can also run a Test 851. to see if the sensor is open(1) and closed(0). also check the connection on the board to see if it still connected.

I can go into level 2 support if more help is needed.

SOURCE: IBM 6400-A00 prints normally and stops.

Please Clean or Change the Platen Open Sensor Switch.
Your problems will be Solved.

SOURCE: IBM Printer 4247 in Parallel Mode

They are auto switching units. All you have to do is configure it correctly and send a job, it selects the interface your are printing thru.

Show error 52.00


Note this a not something users can repair themselves. It is a fault with scanning motor. may need motor or whole scanning assembly to be replaced. Only service centre can perform this.

Fault 41 keeps on coming up when printing


In most cases unseating and reseating the cartridge in the unit to dislodge residue from the cartridge contacts can resolve the problem. If this does not immediately resolve the problem, continue the reseating process up to five times. Follow the instructions below. Unseating and reseating the cartridge Turn the unit on and open the lid or top cover. Remove the cartridges. Re-insert the cartridges. Close the unit's lid or top cover. Cycle the power to the device by turning the printer off for a few seconds. Turn the printer back on. Print a test page. If this does not solve the problem, proceed to the next section. Wiping the cartridge contacts Turn the unit on and open the lid or top cover. Remove the cartridges. Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth (a coffee filter works well), wipe the cartridge contacts, from the top to the bottom (see Figure 2). The contact area of the cartridge should be rubbed briskly to remove the waxy lubricant material from the gold contacts. The contacts inside the printer may also require cleaning. Using a clean, dry, lint-free cloth, gently wipe the contacts, from the top to the bottom (see Figure 3). Re-insert the cartridges and close the printer's top cover. Print a test page. If the problem persists, perform a hard reset as described in the next section. Performing a hard reset on the unit When the printing unit detects an issue with the cartridge, a software flag is set inside the device. This flag may not reset until performing a hard reset on the device Verify that the unit is switched on. Open printer and remove both cartridges. Unplug the power cord from the printer. Wait 30 seconds. Plug the power cord back into the printer. Open the top cover and reinsert both cartridges. Turn the unit on. Print a test page. If the problem persists, the cartridge should be replaced.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Turn on the printer.
  3. Try printing a job from a different software program. If the job prints, go back to the first program and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software program or print job, contact the software vendor for assistance.)


If the message persists, try the following:
  1. Cycle power.
  2. Reseat or replace the interface cable and cycle power.
  3. Remove the DIMMs one at a time and cycle power.
  4. Try using the parallel interface, if possible.
  5. With the EIO cards removed from the printer perform a cold reset:
    1. Remove any accessory, including the HP Jetdirect card.
    2. Turn off the printer.
    3. Hold down the GO button while turning on the printer.
    4. When the printer displays COLD RESET, release the GO button.

Attachment Card Failed Power on Tests.
1. Switch Power off (O).
2. Wait 20 seconds and switch power on(I).
3. If the printer displays (19) again then call for service.

Brand new lexmark original cartridge is not recognised. error report' no cartridge'. all contacts cleaned machine dismantled and cleaned and reassembled. has done this before on occasion with refilled...


1. Open the top front cover of the printer. If the display DOES NOT read Close cover or Insert cartridge, the 32 error is not caused by the toner cartridge and printer service will be required to fix the problem.

2. Make sure the correct toner cartridge is installed for this printer model.
1. Check Lexmark for a list of compatible cartridges for your printer.
2. If the wrong toner cartridge is installed, remove it and install the correct one.

3. If the correct toner cartridge is installed, it may not be seated correctly. To ensure that this is not the cause of the error, do the following:
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Reseat the toner cartridge.
3. Close the lid.
4. Power the printer back on and check the display.

4. If reseating the toner cartridge does not clear the error message and the error started as soon as you installed this particular toner cartridge, the cartridge may be broken. You can check this as follows:
1. Power off the printer and then reinstall the old cartridge. (You can also try a different new cartridge to see if that clears the error.)
2. If the error does disappear, the problem may lie with this cartridge. Please contact the point of purchase, especially if the cartridge is brand new out of the box.

5. If the error cannot be cleared by putting in a new toner cartridge or one that is known to be working, the printer may require service to fix the problem.

Clean prinnter massage


The Zebra printer displays the Clean Printer message when the printer prints a 1000 cards.

This is to maintain printer and ensure good print quality.

The way to clear the message is to get cleaning cards and run a cleaning routine.

The CD that comes with the printer will run a video showing how to run the cleaning cards through the printer. Printer needs 2 unique cleaning cards (1 short & 1 Long)

The IBM 6400 printer uses internal programming software that is specific to the printer based on installed interfaces and graphics options. This software resides in flash memory and when the printer is first powered on the software is executed. During this process it initializes the various processors on the controller board, initializes the optional interface cards, and then loads the necessary operating settings into dram. If the programming software becomes corrupt it will fail during startup, giving you the DC Program not valid error or a number of other error messages. The solution to this is a reflash of the printer. Unfortunately, the flash software is proprietary to IBM and they will not distribute it to anybody. The only way to get the printer reflashed is by calling IBM and having one of their engineers reflash the printer.
