SOURCE: Problems to configue network controller in IBM T42

There are several different LAN, wireless, & modem devices that are installed on the T40 series laptops. For example, if one of the network driver or modem driver doesn't work then install a different one. Make sure you download all the various device drivers for your model laptop and the XP version of those driver.

Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEB site - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP device drivers for your model laptop,

Where is the wireless switch located on the Fujitsu Lifebook A series model AH531?

I'm not sure where the switch is but to enable the wireless connection, you could go to the control panel>network and internet, in the left hand menu choose, Change adapter settings, right click on your wireless network connection and click enable.

How to turn on the wireless switch on my IBM T42

There isn't a switch on the T42. (I'm using one to write this). the Function (Fn) key toggles the adapters but only if the correct utility is loaded. That is on the lenovo site called 1qkcb9ww or 8jvu12ww. Not sure which controls those features. If Fn+F5 doesn't do it...
You otherwise usually get that message when there is a network adapter conflict and sometimes if the driver has become inactive which it does not too often. Try first disabling any other network adapters like Ethernet and maybe even the infrared network adapter though I doubt that could be it. Mine is disabled anyway. Do this in 'Network connections' from control panel for the Ethernet or with Device manager (Systems>hardware>device manager) if you never use a wired connection. If that doesn't help try reinstalling the drivers from the Lenovo site.

Need help with which Fkey to push on the Elitebook in order to turn on my wireless network capability. I was told it was the F5 key but having no luck.

Hi,

It must had been hard unable to connect wirelessly with your device. It's ok, F5 is part of it. But just for me to make sure i'm leading you to the resolution kindly follow the instructions below.

  1. Check the wireless switch. Make sure it is switched to the icon of a computer with signal on both sides.
  2. Press FN (usually on the left side of the space bar on the keyboard).
  3. While holding FN down, Press F5.
  4. You should see a notification on the lower right hand side of the screen that wireless is enabled.
Check your wireless capability. Thank you for choosing FixYa!

Hi,

Click Start > on the Start Search type ncpa.cpl then press enter > right click on wireless connection > click connect/disconnect then there will be another window, click on connect to a network and then you will see there list of wifi networks, choose one the connect to it, if youre not able to see any network, that means that the wireless capability of you laptop is off, check the wireless switch or try to press Fn F5.

Hope this will help... Please rate YES...

Hi - VAIO vgn-fz21m - can't locate the wireless switch/function

HI,
when you try to connect to the wireless network, you must be getting a message " turn on the wireless switch on your laptop "
See there must be a sliding switch on your laptop. it could be on the side panel or on the front panel. Try to locate the wireless switch on the laptop.
it must be having a wireless symbol on it like TOWER or Wireless signals.
On some laptops it is a combination of keys like Fn+F2 or Fn+F5.
If you have the user manual you will find the information about the wireless switch.

I can't get my Network Adapter to connect to my Local Area Connection on my laptop. It tells me to turn my wireless capability but every time i flick the swith for it to be on it doesn't say it's on.

check the bios of the laptop to make sure the network card is enabled (at the BIOS hardware level)
check the FN + (F#) switch to activate the network adapter. for example, IBM\Lenovo is FN + F5 to activate the bluetooth and network adapter cards. In many cases, these settings are separate from the driver and software settings on the computer itself.

Right click on wireless network connection item in ur system bar and goto view available wireless connection and check what message is displayed there
