Question about Panasonic CT-32G11 32" TV

1 Answer

My 8 yr old Panasonic T Tau TV will not turn on. Problem is definitely not the power source as I switched plugs and tried other equipment in same plugs, all work but the TV. When I push the POWER button, nothing happens at all. I have the TV hooked to a HD Cable Box and it was turning on and off with the remote, just fine. Sometimes I would have to push the Power button on the remote more than once or hold it for a second or two and it would come on. Now, I get nothing through the remote or manually on the TV. The HD picture has been perfect, no problems till this one. Thank you.

If the TV is completely dead , then it is usually either power cord, power outlet or PSU. Other faults are quite unlikely to cause no power.

Since you can start TV from remotem then the problem is not a dead TV with no powe.

In your case the TV is in standby and does not wake up.

Try first using the channel up and down in the TV panel (not remote), if they operate the TV, then problem is the remote.

If the TV does not start using channel buttons, then the TV is in forced standby because a fault is detected.

In that case the stand by indicates that an internal fault has been detected. In theory you will need to call the service number listed on the user manual to get a technician to test your TV.
If you can start the TV occasionally, then common faults can concern the button board including IR sensor from TV, PSU, convergence , flyback and more.

Try first leaving the TV disconnected for at least one hour and see if it does start after that.

Also do a test with no connected device. mark connection cables to receiver and optical unit as necessary, then start TV with nothing connected. You should get no signal but TV will start unless faulty.

If it does then it is probably PSU or convergence ICs. Repair will be no less than $150/$200.

The TV can still be repaired, if there is a fault however I suggest to passing to a flat panel TV, which is more efficient and less power consuming than the CRT TV.

No screen vision or sound, plugs checked, mains turned off / on.TV only turns on at source.Remote signals not accepted apart from standby to on. TV also turns itself off. What else can i try to solve? 42"...

There are two places to look for the problems, the backlight inverter board and the power supply. Look at the power supply first since it is easier to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors, etc. Look for 5vdc, 12vdc, and 24dvc.

You can look at the sample of the power supply board, the picture with the soldering side has labeling of what you should have on the output of the power supply, yours may be labeled on the top side of the board, there are high voltage on the board so you must be real careful, if you are not sure, let the professional handle it if you do not have the basic electronics knowledge

Since you do have sound, that means you do have the 5v and the 12v but may or may not have the 24vdc for the backlight inverter.

Hope this helpout

Sounds terminal. Companies build things with "planned obsolescence" in mind. In other words. You buy a TV today, and the warranty says it's good for 4 years. 4 years and 3 months later, it dies.

I hope someone else can help you.
Good Luck!
